Then use the game’s standalone benchmark to tune one setting at a time. At 1080p or 1440p, start with DLSS Quality if your GPU supports it; at 4K, try DLSS Performance. These are starting points, not guarantees: the best choice depends on your hardware, target frame rate, and tolerance for softer upscaled images or frame-generation artifacts.
What “graphics vs. performance” means in Black Myth: Wukong
The tradeoff is not simply low settings versus high settings. Presets adjust several visual options together, while upscaling, ray tracing, and frame generation each affect the image or how the game feels in different ways. Your resolution and GPU also change the cost of each choice.

- Presets bundle quality settings. They are a convenient baseline, but may not match your priorities.
- Upscaling renders the game internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs the output. It can improve performance, but lower render scales can soften detail.
- Ray tracing improves lighting and reflections, but can substantially increase GPU demand.
- Frame generation adds generated frames to the displayed output. It can raise the displayed frame rate, but it does not replace a strong underlying frame rate and can produce visual artifacts.
For a useful comparison, keep the scene and settings consistent, change one option at a time, and assess both image clarity and responsiveness. NVIDIA recommends using the game’s standalone benchmark to evaluate your own PC: NVIDIA’s Black Myth: Wukong settings and benchmark guidance.
Which starting settings fit your resolution?

How to choose an upscaling mode
Upscaling modes use different internal render scales. NVIDIA lists the following percentages for DLSS in the game: Quality at 67%, Balanced at 58%, Performance at 50%, and Ultra Performance at 33%. PC Gamer lists the same percentages for DLSS and FSR, along with XeSS values in its review. These percentages describe the render scale, not a guaranteed percentage increase in frame rate.

Move toward a lower render scale only when you need more performance and the resulting image remains acceptable to you. At 1080p especially, softness may be more distracting than the extra frames are helpful. NVIDIA’s control is a slider: its instructions say, “To apply a DLSS Super Resolution mode, drag the ‘Super Resolution’ slider to the left.” The available options depend on the hardware and upscaler in use.
When is ray tracing worth the cost?
Ray tracing is the clearest image-quality-versus-performance choice. Keep it off if stable performance is your priority; try it if you value its lighting and reflection effects enough to accept a potentially large frame-rate reduction.

One example shows why you should not assume a universal cost: in PC Gamer’s test of an RX 7800 XT at 1440p, using FSR at 66% and frame generation, Very High ray tracing halved the average frame rate and pushed 1% lows into the 30-fps range. That result applies to that tested setup; it is not a forecast for other GPUs or settings.
Why frame generation does not solve every performance problem
Frame generation can increase the number of frames displayed, but a higher displayed rate does not necessarily mean the game feels equally responsive. Start with a solid base frame rate, then judge generated frames in actual play rather than relying on a number alone. If motion looks distracting, test with less motion blur or with it turned off; PC Gamer observed noticeable artifacts when frame generation and stronger motion blur were used together.

Use your own benchmark results, not someone else’s FPS as a promise
Published results are useful for understanding how options can behave, but they are tied to specific systems and configurations. TechSpot says it logged more than 40 hours with the game’s benchmark tool across two systems for its GPU testing, including multiple configurations and resolutions. That controlled comparison can help explain relative performance, but it cannot predict your exact result.
NVIDIA’s figures are vendor-reported. In 2024, it said an RTX 4090 approached 100 fps in the game benchmark with DLSS 3, full ray tracing, and maximum settings. NVIDIA also reported 74 fps for an RTX 4080 SUPER and 66 fps for an RTX 4070 Ti SUPER at 4K with full ray tracing and DLSS 3. Those results retain NVIDIA’s stated setup and should not be compared directly with reviewer results from different systems.
