Asphalt 9: Legends is still playable, but it has changed names: after Gameloft’s 2024 Asphalt Legends Unite expansion replaced Asphalt 9 on digital storefronts, the game is now presented as Asphalt Legends. It remains an arcade racer built around a growing car collection, touch or manual controls, solo Career events, and multiplayer. This review explains what the current identity and feature set mean for players; it does not claim hands-on judgments about handling, performance, progression or purchase fairness.
Is Asphalt 9 still available, and is Asphalt Legends Unite the same game?
Yes. Gameloft announced in July 2024 that Asphalt Legends Unite would replace Asphalt 9: Legends on digital storefronts and allow existing players to upgrade and continue. Unite was a major expansion of the existing game, not an unrelated sequel. Current official pages and listings use the name Asphalt Legends. Gameloft’s current official site and its store directory reflect that naming. [Gameloft’s July 2024 announcement]
As of the official directory checked in 2026, listed platforms include App Store, Google Play, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PS5/PS4, Steam and Windows, among others. Availability can differ by country and storefront, so check the relevant listing for your platform. The directory does not establish present-day stock or regional pricing for physical editions.
What kind of racing game is it?
Gameloft describes Asphalt as an arcade racer, with a focus on fast races, collecting cars and progressing through solo Career events as well as multiplayer. Its official game page advertises more than 50 cars, more than 70 tracks, more than 800 Career events and races against up to seven opponents. These are publisher figures, not independently verified counts, and a live-service roster or event list can change. [Gameloft game page]

Solo play and car collection
Career provides the solo event structure, while car collection is a central part of the game’s ongoing progression. The available official descriptions establish those modes and features, but not how quickly a new player unlocks cars or completes the Career. Those judgments depend on the current build and require direct play.
TouchDrive and manual controls
TouchDrive is a selectable control option intended to make steering decisions simpler; the game also offers manual control. Gameloft’s current pages describe touch, controller and keyboard input options. Which feels most precise or comfortable is a matter of device and preference, and there is no comparative control test here to declare a winner.

What can you play with friends?
Cross-platform play and social multiplayer were central features in the Unite update. Gameloft’s announcement described private lobbies and social features, alongside a cooperative police-chase mode; subsequent official patch notes have described additional team racing. Cross-play means players on supported platforms can race together; it does not, by itself, prove that account progress or purchases transfer between platforms. Check the current support information for the specific platform and account setup before relying on cross-save. The official materials cited here do not establish cross-save behavior.

What platforms and input options should you consider?
The official store directory lists mobile, PC and console platforms, while Gameloft describes touch, controller and keyboard input. The game also documents haptic feedback for PlayStation and Xbox controllers. The best fit depends on where you want to play and which input method you prefer; performance and control quality can vary by device, and no platform-specific performance comparison is established here. How does monetization affect the review?
The official iOS listing discloses in-app purchases, including paid random items. That is a relevant caveat for players who prefer games without randomized paid content. The disclosure alone does not show whether spending is required, how quickly free progression moves, or whether purchases affect competitive fairness; those conclusions require testing in the current build. Is Asphalt Legends still being updated?
Yes. Gameloft’s 2025 roadmap described modes and events including Gauntlet, collector mode, Spotlight Events, EVO and collaborations. The official news index lists updates through September 2026, making this an evolving live-service game rather than a fixed release. Event availability and balance can change over time, so a review of a particular season should be dated and tied to the version played. [Official news index]

Asphalt Legends is worth considering if you want an arcade racer with both solo Career content and multiplayer, a substantial publisher-described car and track selection, and the option to choose touch, controller or keyboard input. The name change does not make it a separate sequel from Asphalt 9: Legends. Players who need proven details about progression speed, performance on a particular device, cross-save, matchmaking or the practical effect of purchases should verify those points for their platform and current version before deciding.
