Ubisoft has not disclosed an exact unit-sales total for Assassin’s Creed Shadows in the cited public statements. Its “very strong” sales description refers to an early qualitative preorder characterization, not a published copy count. Later, Ubisoft reported strong launch comparisons and said the game was ahead of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on consumer spending and player count by May 2025—but those comparisons still do not reveal how many copies Shadows sold.
What does “very strong” mean?
The phrase describes a qualitative assessment of preorders, not a quantified sales result. The original report behind that wording, including its speaker, exact phrasing and any benchmark for “very strong,” is not established in the available disclosures. It should not be treated as evidence that Ubisoft announced a preorder total.
What sales information did Ubisoft disclose?
In its May 14, 2025 FY2024–25 results, Ubisoft said Shadows had the second-highest day-one sales revenue in Assassin’s Creed history, behind Valhalla, and set a record for Ubisoft day-one performance on the PlayStation digital store. These are Ubisoft’s own comparisons; the company did not provide an absolute unit-sales figure in that release. Ubisoft FY2024–25 results.
Comparison with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
In the same May 2025 release, Ubisoft said consumer spending and player count for Shadows had clearly outperformed Odyssey “to date.” That is a relative comparison at the time of the report, not a disclosed number of copies sold or a claim that Shadows outsold Odyssey in units.

Other launch figures are not sales counts
Ubisoft also reported 160 million hours played and an average score of 91/100 across first-party stores in May 2025. The average was based on PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Epic Games Store and Steam; it was not a critics’ score. Playtime and store ratings describe engagement and reception, not units sold. Has Ubisoft since revealed a total?
No exact Shadows unit-sales total appears in the cited disclosures. A transcript of Ubisoft’s September 30, 2026 earnings call attributes to CEO Yves Guillemot remarks that detailed sales had not been disclosed, while characterizing the game’s performance as good among major Assassin’s Creed titles and saying it performed well. Because the transcript marks his remarks as interpreted, this is best treated as a reported paraphrase, not a verified verbatim quotation. September 30, 2026 earnings-call transcript.

Why later Ubisoft numbers do not answer the question
Ubisoft’s May 20, 2026 FY2025–26 results reported company-wide IFRS 15 sales of €1,395.7 million and net bookings of €1,525.1 million. The company said the prior-year fourth-quarter comparison included the release of Shadows; those group figures are not title-specific sales. The report also put the Assassin’s Creed franchise’s annual audience above 30 million unique active players. That is a franchise-wide engagement measure, not a count of Shadows copies. The best-supported answer is that Ubisoft described strong relative launch performance, but has not published an exact unit-sales total in these disclosures. Its day-one revenue ranking and comparisons with Odyssey show how the company positioned the launch; they cannot be converted into a number of copies sold.
