For a dependable start, cook heart-restoring ingredients instead of eating them raw, then use effect-granting ingredients such as Sundelions, Spicy Peppers, or Stamella Shrooms when the situation calls for them.
Best food for ordinary heart recovery
Cook heart-restoring foods such as apples or Raw Meat in a cooking pot. Nintendo’s beginner guide notes that cooked dishes restore more hearts than raw ingredients, and recommends stocking up on foods such as apples and Raw Meat.
The useful meal depends on how many hearts you need and which ingredients you can spare. The cited guidance does not establish one recipe as the most efficient for every situation, so use what you have rather than assuming a particular combination is always optimal.
Best food for Gloom-damaged hearts
Cook Sundelions into a meal to help restore the heart meter after Gloom damages it. Nintendo UK recommends Sundelion meals and notes that Sundelions are commonly found on Sky Islands. You can also restore Gloom-damaged hearts by finding and activating a Lightroot, which can be a practical alternative during a trip through the Depths.

As an additional recipe illustration, Nintendo Life’s recipe guide gives a Sunny Fried Wild Greens example using one Sundelion and two herbs, and says that example restores ordinary hearts as well as three Gloom-damaged hearts. Treat that amount as Nintendo Life’s example, not as an official Nintendo specification.
Best food for cold resistance
Nintendo’s beginner guide gives Spicy Sautéed Peppers as a cold-resistance meal made with a Spicy Pepper. It also restores hearts, so it can serve two needs at once. Cook one before heading into cold terrain; after making it, use the Recipe Book to find it again without having to remember the ingredients.

Best food for stamina
For stamina recovery, Nintendo’s example is Energizing Steamed Mushrooms, made with a Stamella Shroom and a Stambulb. Nintendo describes it as restoring stamina and hearts, making it a useful starting meal when both materials are available. Its official guide does not specify how much stamina the example restores.
How to choose between meals
When several dishes might work, compare the effect you need, the hearts or stamina restored, any temporary-effect duration that matters, and whether the ingredients are plentiful enough to use. Nintendo Life illustrates that changing ingredients can alter effect strength and restoration, but its numerical examples are editorial guidance rather than official Nintendo data.

- Ultrahand: Using the new Ultrahand ability, Link can pick up, move, and rotate almost any object, and can even attach objects together to create bridges, vehicles, and more!
- Fuse: Magically fuse almost any object to Link’s current weapon, shield, or arrow to increase durability, damage, or even add a new effect. Experiment with lots of different combinations to come up with surprising—and sometimes hilarious—results!
- Ascend: Add a new dimension to your exploration with Ascend, which gives Link the ability to pass through solid objects above him. Rise up through ceilings, hillsides, and even certain enemies to create seemingly impossible shortcuts.
- Recall: Use Recall to make objects in motion move backward through time, letting Link ride fallen boulders skyward, recover thrown weapons, or send projectiles back where they came from.
Nintendo’s guides and the cited recipe examples do not establish a universally best meal, exact optimal heart recovery for every recipe, or a complete ingredient-farming route. Choose for the immediate problem and the ingredients you can reasonably spend.

Cooking requires a pot, a fire, and ingredients. Besides restoring more hearts than raw foods, cooking lets specially named ingredients add effects such as stamina recovery or cold resistance. Nintendo’s official regional tips also mention a Portable Pot, as well as the cold-resistance and stamina examples.
