The headline’s “all-time most successful” wording needs a narrow reading: it refers to a winning mark at The Game Awards, not a tally spanning every awards body. The available official 2023 result verifies the Game of the Year win, but no official 2025 results table establishing a precise all-time total is cited here.
What surpassed its mark, and when?
A 2025 report by PC Gamer says a later Game Awards result surpassed Baldur’s Gate 3’s prior mark. That makes “didn’t last long” a comparison within The Game Awards’ own history. How to interpret “most successful”
Awards totals are meaningful only when the show, year, and category are clear. A Game of the Year win at The Game Awards is not interchangeable with a total of wins at one ceremony or with Game of the Year awards collected across several organizations. Nor does a record changing hands measure a game’s quality or erase its earlier honors.
