How the Rising Tide Challenge connects to funding
The challenge gives developers a way to showcase a game concept. Selection can lead to fast-tracked consideration for investment, but it does not guarantee an investment or award the maximum amount to every selected team. Blue Ocean Games says most teams should apply through the challenge; its separate funding application is intended for teams that already have external funding for the game or studio, or strong market validation such as wishlists or followers. The first challenge: May 2025
Global Game Jam announced the first Rising Tide Challenge as a trailer jam running May 1–31, 2025. Participants were asked to submit a short, polished, in-engine trailer presenting a game concept. The top 20 teams were to have applications fast-tracked for consideration for up to $300,000, in addition to cash prizes. Fast-tracking meant investment consideration, not a guaranteed investment. The later 2026 challenge page
A separate Global Game Jam page describes the challenge’s return in 2026. It lists June 30 as the last day to submit a trailer and describes cash prizes, public-vote selections and judges’ picks, with top teams fast-tracked for investment consideration up to $300,000. That deadline belongs to the 2026 event page; it is not a current opening date by itself. What the published SAIL terms say
Blue Ocean Games calls its funding agreement SAIL, or Structured Agreement for Indie Launch. The official funding page describes the following summary of terms:
- Funding: up to $300,000.
- Equity: the investor receives 20% equity.
- Revenue share: up to 30%. The page says this share is removed if the team successfully raises a seed round within two years, and that it applies only after the team has secured enough cash for two years of operations.
These are the fund’s published summaries, not a substitute for the agreement. Before applying or accepting an offer, read the actual contract and confirm the amount and timing of any disbursements, milestones, spending controls, eligibility requirements, intellectual-property terms and support obligations. The public summary does not establish those details.

Whether this route fits depends on more than the maximum funding figure. The fund describes SAIL as designed for pre-demo teams, but applicants should check the current official instructions and weigh the terms against their own stage and plans.

- Decide whether the challenge route or the alternate application better fits your team’s existing funding and market validation.
- Review equity and revenue-share obligations in the actual agreement, including how the seed-round provision works.
