Bodycam is a multiplayer first-person shooter, not real body-camera footage. Its footage-like effect comes from the body-camera viewpoint and the way the game presents its environments—not from evidence that it reproduces real police procedures or has been independently verified as a simulation. That distinction matters when its visuals feel startlingly convincing.
What is Bodycam?
Bodycam is an early-access tactical multiplayer FPS developed and published by Reissad Studio. It launched on Steam on June 7, 2024, and is built with Unreal Engine 5, according to its Steam store listing. The studio describes the game as the first tactical multiplayer FPS with a “true body-camera view in Unreal Engine 5”; that is the developer’s promotional description, not an independent assessment.
The official descriptions frame the game around multiplayer combat and teamplay. Steam lists Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Wingman, while the official Bodycam site also names modes such as Body Bomb, Hardpoint, and Gun Game. Because the game is in early access, its features and mode list may change; check the live store page for the current offering.
Why does Bodycam look so realistic?
The key is the combination of a body-camera point of view, footage-like visual framing, and the game’s Unreal Engine 5 presentation. The constrained perspective makes the image read differently from a conventional, freely moving first-person view: the player sees the action through a camera-like frame, rather than as an unmediated view of the character. The result can resemble recorded footage, even though it remains a designed game image.

Reissad Studio markets Bodycam as an “ULTRA REALISTIC FPS.” Steam’s description also says, “Close-quarters combats feel raw and loud. Every angle, callout, and bullet matters.” Those phrases express the developer’s intended presentation; they are not independent findings about visual accuracy, sound, or real-world tactics. The available descriptions do not establish a specific rendering technique beyond the stated use of Unreal Engine 5, so it would be misleading to attribute the look to a particular technical feature without further evidence.
Is Bodycam real footage or a realistic simulation?
No. Bodycam is a video game. Its body-camera perspective is an aesthetic and gameplay choice, not proof that its images come from real cameras or that its mechanics accurately reproduce police work. The official descriptions establish its identity as a tactical multiplayer FPS, but do not demonstrate a simulation of real body-camera procedures.

There is also no named independent realism test or controlled visual comparison establishing how faithfully the game represents real footage. A convincing appearance can be discussed as an effect of perspective and presentation; it should not be treated as evidence of operational accuracy.
Why can the perspective feel unsettling?
A body-camera-style view can make combat seem immediate and confined: the frame feels like a recording device’s view, while close-quarters action occupies that limited field. Combined with a footage-like presentation, that can make the game feel more like an observed incident than a conventional shooter. “Borderline terrifying” is a reaction to that effect, not a measured response shared by all players.

Bodycam also sits within a broader conversation about bodycam-style shooters. PC Gamer’s May 18, 2026 coverage discusses how perspective, subject matter, and mechanics shape the genre. Axios’s April 25, 2023 report covered debate prompted by the viral trailer for Unrecord, a separate game. That context helps explain why footage-like presentation attracts attention; it does not mean Bodycam and Unrecord are the same game.

These are the Steam listing’s stated tiers. They do not specify a guaranteed frame rate or visual settings for every configuration. A headset with a microphone is an optional practical choice for online team communication, not a published system requirement.
