Yes. You can play the PS4 version of LittleBigPlanet 3 on PS5 through backward compatibility. The offline campaign remains playable, but the game’s online servers are offline indefinitely, so online features and access to other players’ creations are unavailable.
How to play LittleBigPlanet 3 on PS5
LittleBigPlanet 3 is a PS4 game. Sony says PS5 plays more than 99 percent of the 4,000+ games available on PS4, and the game is not among the PS4-only exceptions listed on its compatibility page. That statistic is platform-wide, not a game-specific performance test or guarantee. Sony also cautions that some PS4 games may show errors or behave unexpectedly on PS5.

What still works—and what does not
Offline campaign
The offline campaign remains playable. Sony’s LittleBigPlanet 3 online service status notice confirms that the campaign remains available despite the server shutdown.
Online play and community creations
Online services, including access to other players’ creations, are unavailable. Sony says the PS4 servers, taken offline in January 2024, will remain offline indefinitely. The company’s notice states: “Due to ongoing technical issues which resulted in the LittleBigPlanet 3 servers for PS4 being taken offline temporarily in January 2024, the decision has been made to keep the servers offline indefinitely.” Buying or inserting a disc does not restore these server-dependent features.

Creations saved locally
Sony says creations stored locally on a PS4 remain available on that console, and newly created content can be played locally on PS4 but cannot be shared. Its notice does not establish whether locally saved creations transfer to or work on PS5, so do not assume they will.
Which version should you use?
| What you own or want to do | What to expect on PS5 |
|---|---|
| PS4 disc and PS5 with a disc drive | You can play the game through backward compatibility, subject to Sony’s general compatibility caveat. |
| PS4 disc and PS5 Digital Edition | The console cannot use the disc. |
| Digital copy linked to your account | Find it in your PS5 library and install it. |
| Offline campaign | Playable. |
| Online services or other players’ creations | Unavailable; the servers are offline indefinitely. |
| Creations saved locally on PS4 | Sony confirms they remain available on PS4; transfer or use on PS5 is not established. |
Will it run perfectly on PS5?
Sony’s compatibility information supports playing the PS4 game on PS5, but it does not provide a LittleBigPlanet 3-specific guarantee for frame rate, resolution, loading times, or stability. The reliable expectation is backward compatibility with Sony’s general caveat—not a promise of a particular technical improvement.
