Conquest and Breakthrough are built around broad territory and shifting fronts; the Tactical modes emphasize infantry combat, squad fights, kills, or close objective play. Portal adds community-created experiences, while REDSEC offers a separately presented set of modes. These labels describe EA’s launch lineup and announced offerings—not a verified live playlist rotation as of October 8, 2026.
Battlefield 6’s eight core launch modes at a glance
| Mode | Core objective | Combat shape |
|---|---|---|
| Conquest | Capture and hold multiple control points | Large-scale, combined-arms battles across a broad zone |
| Breakthrough | Attackers capture successive sectors; defenders hold them | A front that advances through consecutive sectors |
| Escalation | Capture strategic points as the available objectives diminish | Territory expands and the fight concentrates around fewer points |
| Rush | Attackers destroy M-COM systems; defenders protect them | Attacking and defending around demolition objectives |
| Squad Deathmatch | Four squads race to a kill target | Squad-versus-squad scoring |
| Team Deathmatch | Earn more kills than the opposing team | Infantry-focused combat |
| Domination | Capture and hold objectives until reaching the point limit | Close-quarters infantry objective play |
| King of the Hill | Secure a control point that moves during the match | Teams regroup and cooperate around a changing objective |
EA groups Conquest, Breakthrough, Escalation, and Rush under All-Out Warfare. Squad Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Domination, and King of the Hill are its Tactical modes. The official launch guide describes Tactical modes as faster experiences built around classes, squads, and destruction. EA’s launch guide to Battlefield 6 multiplayer modes explains the rules for each.
All-Out Warfare: large-scale objectives and changing fronts
Conquest: fight across multiple control points
Two teams capture and hold lettered points across a combat zone. An opposing player in a capture area can contest it and stop capture progress. Choose Conquest if you want to move among several objectives and take part in broad combined-arms battles. EA characterizes official Conquest playlists as often using the largest player counts and combat zones, but its guide does not give a specific player-count figure.
Breakthrough: attack or defend a sector-by-sector front
One side attacks while the other defends. Attackers must capture every control point in a sector to advance to the next. Attackers have limited lives, which reset when they capture a sector; defenders have unlimited lives. This clear push-and-hold structure suits players who prefer a defined front and a designated role over freely choosing among map-wide objectives.

Escalation: contest fewer points as territory expands
Both teams capture strategic control points. As territory expands, the number of available points shrinks, drawing the battle toward the remaining objectives. Its defining feature is that the objective set changes: the fight starts with more ground to contest and becomes more concentrated.
Rush: destroy or protect M-COM systems
Attackers try to destroy M-COM systems while defenders protect them. The match ends when all M-COM systems are destroyed or the attackers run out of lives. Pick Rush if you want an attack-versus-defense objective centered on demolition rather than controlling several points at once.

Tactical modes: infantry fights, squads, and compact objectives
Squad Deathmatch: four squads chase a kill target
Four squads compete, and the first to reach the kill target wins. Unlike Team Deathmatch, the contest is split among four squads rather than two teams.
Team Deathmatch: focus on kills
This is infantry-focused combat, and the team with the most kills wins. It is the most direct choice if you want a kill-based match without a capture objective.

Domination: capture and hold close-quarters objectives
Teams fight over objectives in close-quarters infantry combat. The first team to reach the point limit wins, so success depends on taking and holding ground as well as winning firefights.
King of the Hill: pursue a moving control point
Teams secure a control point that moves during the match. Because the objective changes location, players must move together and adapt rather than defend one fixed position throughout.

REDSEC: a separate set of Battlefield options
REDSEC should not be counted as part of the eight core modes in EA’s Battlefield 6 launch guide. In an announcement dated October 28, 2025, EA described REDSEC as free to play without owning Battlefield 6 and listed Battle Royale, Gauntlet, and Portal experiences based on REDSEC elements. Those are REDSEC offerings, not additional entries in the base game’s launch-mode lineup. EA’s REDSEC announcement describes those options.
What’s confirmed about current availability?
EA’s October 10, 2025 launch guide establishes the eight core modes and their launch-era rules; it does not establish which playlists are live or how they rotate on October 8, 2026, nor does it verify every post-launch change. Treat the mode descriptions above as the launch lineup, and check the live game or current official updates for present-day playlist availability. EA’s 2025 new-player guide also described a launch-era onboarding setup: players below Rank 10 had access to Initiation playlists, with Breakthrough as the sole Initiation Mode and teams partially filled with bots. That threshold and availability are historical details, not confirmation of the current onboarding system. EA’s new-player guide provides that launch context.
Battlefield 6 launched October 10, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, according to EA. EA’s Battlefield 6 page lists the game and platforms.
