REDSEC is EA’s free-to-play Battlefield experience, and EA says you can play it without buying Battlefield 6. Its launch Battle Royale format was described as 100 players: either 25 four-player squads or 50 duos. That figure applies to the documented Battle Royale format, not every REDSEC variant; EA describes Rapid Royale as using fewer players. REDSEC is positioned against Call of Duty: Warzone through Battlefield-style classes, destruction and vehicles—not through any verified claim that it is more popular or better.
What is Battlefield REDSEC?
REDSEC is a free-to-play Battlefield experience set on Fort Lyndon. EA introduced it on October 28, 2025, as a way to play without owning Battlefield 6. Its launch pitch centered on Battle Royale, with Battlefield systems such as classes, training paths, missions, intel, tactical destruction and vehicles.
EA’s launch description is useful for understanding the mode’s design, but it does not establish that every launch feature or playlist remains available in October 2026. REDSEC changes seasonally, so check the current in-game lineup for what is playable now.
What does REDSEC’s 100-player claim mean?
In EA’s October 28, 2025 introduction, the standard described Battle Royale match held 100 players, arranged as either 25 squads of four or 50 duos. The number is a documented launch format, not a promise about every variant or a current player-count comparison with Warzone.

EA later described Rapid Royale as a faster Battle Royale variant with fewer players, smaller play spaces, faster circles and shorter matches. The source describing it does not give a specific reduced player count. EA’s October 1, 2026 Season 5 outlook also framed further changes as plans that could change, be delayed or be removed, rather than confirmed live features.
How REDSEC’s Battlefield systems shape its Battle Royale
Classes and preparation
REDSEC brings Battlefield class play into the mode. EA’s launch description also highlighted training paths, missions and intel, adding preparation and objectives alongside the basic contest to survive. For details on the Battle Royale format and loadout differences, EA’s Battle Royale 101 guide, published April 14, 2026, offers mode context; it is not a live playlist tracker.
Destruction and vehicles
Tactical destruction and vehicles are central to REDSEC’s Battlefield-flavored pitch. Destructible surroundings can make positioning and cover part of the fight, while vehicles add another way to move and engage across Fort Lyndon. These are advertised design features, not evidence by themselves that REDSEC’s matches are more strategic or more enjoyable than Warzone’s.

Gauntlet
EA described Gauntlet as a round-based mode in which eight teams of four competed through missions. Its structure differs from Battle Royale: the focus is on successive team objectives rather than simply being the last squad standing.
Portal
REDSEC Portal lets players create and discover custom experiences. It offers a way to explore player-made content in addition to the official modes, though the launch announcement alone does not establish which custom experiences are currently available or popular.

How does REDSEC compare with Warzone?
Both publishers present their games as free-to-play Battle Royale options, so “takes on” describes competition for players—not proof that REDSEC has overtaken Warzone in audience size or quality. The available official Warzone page presents Battle Royale and Resurgence in a seasonal format, but the snapshot was labelled Season 04 and does not verify Warzone’s live playlists on October 8, 2026. No date-matched official Warzone player-count figure is established here.
| Comparison | REDSEC | Warzone |
|---|---|---|
| Access | EA says REDSEC is free-to-play and playable without owning Battlefield 6. Supported channels and platforms are listed by EA Help. | Activision presents Warzone as free-to-play on its official Warzone page. |
| Team sizes and player counts | EA specified 100 players at launch for the described Battle Royale format: 25 squads of four or 50 duos. Rapid Royale has a reduced count, but the cited description gives no number. | A comparable, date-matched official player-count and team-size figure is not established by the available Season 04 page snapshot. |
| Match pace | EA describes Rapid Royale as having smaller play spaces, faster circles and shorter matches than its standard Battle Royale format. | The available official page presents Battle Royale and Resurgence seasonally, but does not substantiate Warzone’s live playlist or pacing details for October 8, 2026. |
| Signature systems | EA’s launch pitch emphasizes classes, training paths, missions and intel, tactical destruction, vehicles and Fort Lyndon. | The available official snapshot establishes Battle Royale and Resurgence positioning, but does not support a date-matched, detailed mechanics comparison here. |
| Additional modes | Gauntlet and Portal were part of the October 2025 launch package; their current availability is not confirmed by that announcement. | The Season 04 snapshot is not sufficient to confirm Warzone’s October 2026 lineup. |
How to play REDSEC, and what you need
EA Help says REDSEC requires an EA Account and a persistent internet connection. EA lists PC downloads through EA App, Epic Games Store and Steam, plus PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The EA Help page also says REDSEC players can squad with REDSEC and Battlefield 6 players across supported platforms and modes; progress, unlocks and settings carry over if a player buys the full Battlefield 6 experience.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Choose a supported platform: PC, PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S.
- On PC, download through EA App, Epic Games Store or Steam; on console, use the platform’s store.
- Sign in with an EA Account and connect to the internet to play.
EA Help notes a regional exception: PlayStation Plus is required for REDSEC components on PlayStation systems in Germany because of regional age restrictions and content regulations. This requirement is not described as universal.
Which one should you try?
REDSEC is the more directly appealing starting point if you want a free Battlefield experience built around classes, tactical destruction and vehicles, and you are interested in its 100-player Battle Royale format. Warzone is also presented as free-to-play, with Battle Royale and Resurgence in the official seasonal snapshot. Since that snapshot does not establish Warzone’s live October 2026 lineup—and there is no verified audience or head-to-head performance comparison here—the practical choice is to try the free game whose current modes and mechanics suit you better.
