In its H1 2026 results update, dated September 2, CD Projekt Red gave The Witcher 4 a “planned release window” in 2028. The company has not announced a specific launch date. What does the six-year trilogy plan mean?
On the Q3 2025 earnings call, Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski said the company’s plan was “to launch the whole trilogy within a six-year period.” He also described shorter development time between the trilogy’s games as the intended approach. Who is the main character, and what comes before The Witcher 4?
CD Projekt Red says Ciri will take over as the main protagonist in The Witcher 4. The company also listed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered for September 29, 2026, and the Songs of the Past expansion for 2027. The expansion is described as another Geralt adventure, preceding Ciri’s lead role in the next main game. The announcement said the remastered edition would include Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, and that owners of the base game could download it free. How big is The Witcher series?
In the same September 2026 update, CD Projekt Red reported that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt had sold over 65 million copies and that the series had surpassed 90 million copies sold. Those are figures reported by the company, not independent sales estimates. The studio framed the planned 2028 game alongside other Witcher-universe releases as part of a longer-term future for the franchise.
