For most PS5 players, the standard DualSense is the best starting point: it preserves the console’s native haptics and adaptive triggers without the specialist controls or premium price of an enthusiast pad. Choose the DualSense Edge if you want Sony’s deeper remapping and profile tools; consider the Victrix Pro BFG Reloaded or Nacon Revolution 5 Pro if modular parts, rear controls, Hall effect sticks, or an asymmetric layout matter more than DualSense feedback. The right choice depends on which trade-offs you will actually use.
Best PS5 controllers at a glance
| Controller | Best for | Standout features | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sony DualSense | Most players and native PS5 features | Haptics, adaptive triggers, built-in microphone and speaker | No rear paddles or the Edge’s advanced tuning controls |
| Sony DualSense Edge | Premium Sony customization | Remapping, profiles, adjustable trigger lengths, stick sensitivity and swappable thumbsticks | Higher price and shorter battery life than standard DualSense, according to Stuff |
| Turtle Beach Victrix Pro BFG Reloaded | Modular competitive setups | Replaceable control modules, Hall effect thumbsticks and four remappable rear paddles | No DualSense adaptive triggers or rumble/haptics |
| Nacon Revolution 5 Pro | Asymmetric layout and extensive adjustment | Magnetic Hall effect sticks and triggers, trigger blockers, multiple profiles and configurable parts | No PS5 haptic feedback or adaptive triggers; vibration does not work in PS5 games |
These are different approaches, not interchangeable versions of the same pad. If native PS5 feedback is a priority, start with Sony. If you want rear controls or specialized stick and trigger behavior, weigh those benefits against the features you give up.
Which PS5 controller should you choose?
Best for most players: Sony DualSense
The standard DualSense is the sensible baseline if you want the PS5’s native controller features and familiar layout. PlayStation games can use its haptics and adaptive triggers, and it also has a built-in microphone and speaker. Stuff’s 2026 guide lists an approximate 7–10-hour battery-life range; that is an editorial estimate, not a guaranteed runtime, and actual use can vary. Stuff’s PS5 controller guide names it as its pick for most players.
Best premium Sony option: DualSense Edge
Choose the DualSense Edge if you want more control over the standard Sony experience rather than a different control layout. PlayStation lists remappable buttons, user profiles, adjustable trigger lengths and stick sensitivity. The controller retains Sony’s native feature set, while its two rear button attachments, swappable thumbsticks and adjustable trigger stops add options for players who will use them. Stuff identifies its higher price and shorter battery life than the standard DualSense as drawbacks; its performance ranking is an editorial judgment, not a universal result. See PlayStation’s DualSense Edge product page for configuration details.

Best for modular controls: Victrix Pro BFG Reloaded
The Victrix Pro BFG Reloaded is aimed at players who want to change the physical setup as well as remap controls. TechRadar describes multiple sticks and D-pads, a fightpad module, five trigger adjustment levels, four remappable rear paddles and Hall effect thumbsticks. That modularity can suit players who switch genres or want a specific layout, but it comes with a notable compromise: the controller lacks DualSense adaptive triggers and rumble/haptics.
TechRadar’s guide lists the controller at $209.99 in the US and £179.99 in the UK, with approximate battery life of 20 hours. Those are guide-listed figures, not guaranteed current prices or runtime; check regional listings and usage conditions before buying. TechRadar’s PS5 controller guide has its current listing.

Best for asymmetric layout and adjustment: Nacon Revolution 5 Pro
The Revolution 5 Pro suits players who prefer an asymmetric stick layout and want extensive physical and software adjustment. Nacon lists magnetic Hall effect sticks and triggers, trigger blockers, multiple weights and stick sizes or heads, four profiles per platform, and more than 60 customization options. Its support FAQ says it works with PC, PS4 and PS5, but does not provide haptic feedback or adaptive triggers; vibration works on PC and PS4 games, not PS5 games. Nacon says battery autonomy is 10 hours or more depending on settings.
Nacon’s FPS Pro mode is described as dead-zone-free, but the manufacturer warns that slight drift can occur if a stick does not center precisely. Hall effect sensing does not by itself guarantee that a complete controller mechanism will never drift. Check Nacon’s Revolution 5 Pro page and its support FAQ for the manufacturer’s specifications and qualifications.

What matters most when comparing them?
Native PS5 feedback or extra control options?
DualSense and DualSense Edge preserve the native Sony feedback experience. Victrix and Nacon emphasize configurable controls and hardware options instead, and both give up important parts of that feedback on PS5. Decide whether haptics and adaptive triggers are features you regularly notice before prioritizing extra paddles, modules or stick technology.
Back buttons, remapping and profiles
The Edge is the most direct choice if you want Sony-integrated remapping, profiles, trigger-length adjustment and stick-sensitivity tuning. Victrix offers four remappable rear paddles and a modular layout. Nacon focuses on profiles and broad adjustment options. Consider which controls you need to reach without moving your thumbs from the sticks, and whether you will take the time to configure profiles.

Hall effect sticks and drift claims
Hall effect sensors use magnetic sensing rather than the contact-based sensing used in some stick designs. That can be a reason to consider a controller, but it is not proof that the whole stick assembly can never develop drift: centering, calibration and the rest of the mechanism still matter. Nacon specifically cautions that its FPS Pro mode may show slight drift if a stick does not return precisely to center.
Comfort and fit
There is no evidence here for a universal comfort winner. Compare the controller’s hand fit, weight, grip, button reach and stick placement against your own preferences. An asymmetric layout such as Nacon’s may feel more natural to one player, while another may prefer the familiar symmetrical Sony arrangement. If possible, try the shape before committing, especially if you have smaller or larger hands or rely on particular grips.

Should you wait for the Nacon Revolution 5 Unlimited?
Nacon’s Revolution 5 Unlimited was announced in a TechRadar report dated October 2, 2026. The report describes a built-in control screen and TMR technology and gives preorder prices of $229.99, £179.99 and €199.99. These are reported preorder figures, not confirmation of current local stock or independent performance. The Nacon accessories division director quoted in that report described the product as an officially licensed asymmetric PlayStation controller; that statement is company commentary, not independent evidence of how it performs.
Because retail availability and credible hands-on evaluation are not established here, treat it as an announcement to verify rather than a proven buy-now recommendation. Check the manufacturer’s live listing, your region’s availability and independent reviews before deciding. TechRadar’s announcement report covers the reported features and preorder prices.
Quick decision guide
- Choose the standard DualSense if native PS5 feedback and the familiar Sony layout matter more than extra controls.
- Choose the DualSense Edge if you want Sony’s remapping, profiles and adjustable controls and are willing to pay more.
- Choose the Victrix Pro BFG Reloaded if you will use its modular parts and rear paddles, and can live without DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers.
- Choose the Nacon Revolution 5 Pro if you prefer an asymmetric layout and its Hall effect and adjustment features, while accepting the PS5 feedback limitations.
- Wait on the Revolution 5 Unlimited until availability and independent evaluation are clearer.
Do not choose by competitive branding alone: the available sources do not establish comparable latency results or prove that any controller improves tournament performance. Check current local pricing and stock, then prioritize the features you will use over headline specifications.
