The most reliable Maelle build is a loop, not a fixed stat sheet: apply Burn, enter Virtuose, then spend the opening on a heavy attack. Early on, Medalum is a strong fit for that plan; the cited endgame setup instead uses Esquium for Burn stacking. Choose your weapon and skills for your current progress, and spend attributes according to that weapon’s scaling before adding speed or survivability.
How Maelle’s stances shape her build
Maelle’s damage plan depends on moving between Offensive, Defensive, and Virtuose stances. A Maelle-focused guide reports these stance effects: Offensive deals and receives 50% more damage; Defensive reduces damage received by 50% and grants 1 AP on a successful Parry or Dodge; Virtuose deals 200% more damage. These are guide-reported game values, not independently tested figures. See the FinalBoss Maelle guide and Gamer Headlines build guide.

Virtuose is powerful, but Maelle cannot simply select it whenever she wants. Skills and weapon effects change her stance, so a practical build needs both an entry route and a way to keep the stance available until she can use her payoff.
Best Maelle build for progression: Burn into Virtuose
For story progression, use the Burn and stance tools available to you rather than trying to reproduce a late-game build. The cited guides describe a practical sequence: apply Burn with Free Aim or a teammate, use Swift Stride to enter Virtuose, then attack with Percee. Mezzo Forte can help maintain Virtuose while preserving AP for the payoff. This route is described across the Gamer Headlines guide and the FinalBoss guide.
#1 Best Overall
- Reactive Turn-based Combat: Craft unique builds for your Expeditioners that fit your playstyle via gear, stats, skills, and &character synergies
- Dodge, parry, and counter in real time, chain combos by mastering attack rhythms, and target enemy weak points using a free aim system
- With only one year left to live, join Gustave, Maelle, & fellow Expeditioners as they embark on a desperate quest to break Paintress’ cycle of death
- Explore an enchanting realm populated by adversaries; Wander through breathtaking landscapes, from Island of Visages to the Forgotten Battlefield
- Experience the debut game from Sandfall Interactive, fully realized in Unreal Engine 5 with stunning graphics and a heartbreaking soundtrack
- Set up Burn. Use Free Aim if appropriate, or have a teammate apply Burn so Maelle does not have to spend her own turn on every part of the setup.
- Enter Virtuose. Use Swift Stride as the transition when the skill is available.
- Keep enough AP for the payoff. Avoid spending the AP needed for the attack you intend to use; Mezzo Forte may help maintain the stance while conserving AP.
- Spend the opening. Use Percee as the heavy attack payoff when the setup is ready.
The important decision is when to cash in the stance. If Maelle enters Virtuose before Burn is applied, or spends the AP needed for her attack, the pieces no longer line up as efficiently.
Weapon choices: which Maelle weapon fits your plan?
| Weapon | Best fit | What the cited guides say |
|---|---|---|
| Medalum | Progression-friendly Burn/Virtuose plan | Gamer Headlines recommends it early. FinalBoss describes passives that start Maelle in Virtuose at upgrade level 4, double Burn applied in Virtuose at level 10, and double Burn damage in Virtuose at level 20. These are guide-reported upgrade effects; check the weapon’s current in-game description. |
| Esquium | Late-game Burn stacking | Gamer Headlines uses it for an endgame build with Burning Canvas as the payoff and Swift Stride as stance insurance. Its stated attribute order is Agility, Defense, then Might. |
| Brulerum | Crit-driven Burn alternative | FinalBoss describes critical-hit and Burn passives for players who prefer crit-triggered Burn. |
| Glaisum or Melarum | Self-sufficient play | FinalBoss describes stance-switch healing and cleansing utility, and recommends more Vitality for this approach. |
| Jarum | Counter-oriented play | FinalBoss describes a counter-triggered transition into Virtuose and Burn application; it suits players comfortable with counter timing. |
| Stendhal | Specialized single-target burst | The cited build and skill guides cover it as an endgame finisher direction. No damage outcome is guaranteed: results depend on setup, stats, enemy, and game version. |
Medalum and Esquium are not interchangeable recommendations for the same point in the game. The former is presented as an early fit for Burn and Virtuose; the latter belongs to a late-game Burn-stack setup. The sources do not establish exact acquisition instructions, so check your in-game unlocks rather than assuming a particular route.

Endgame alternative: stack Burn with Esquium
For an endgame Burn-stack setup, Gamer Headlines recommends Esquium, Burning Canvas as the payoff, and Swift Stride to provide stance insurance. The build uses Verso for Burn application and Sciel for tempo. This is a team-supported late-game approach, not a necessary upgrade to the progression loop: it assumes access to the named setup and companions.
How to allocate Maelle’s attributes
Start with the scaling of the weapon you have equipped. For the Esquium endgame build, Gamer Headlines gives this priority: Agility, Defense, then Might. More broadly, the cited Maelle guide emphasizes Agility and Defense, with extra Vitality for solo or self-sufficient builds. Treat these as priorities, not universal point totals; an endgame distribution may not suit a lower-level character or a different weapon.
Rank #3
- Follow weapon scaling first: the weapon determines which attributes support its damage.
- Use Agility for tempo: more turns can help Maelle set up and spend her stance window.
- Add Defense or Vitality when survival is the problem: choose durability over a fragile damage setup if incoming hits stop you from executing the loop.
- Invest in Might only in context: the Esquium guide places it after Agility and Defense, not ahead of weapon scaling or the needs of the build.
Pictos and Luminas: support the loop, not a template
Choose Pictos and Luminas to address the part of your build that is failing: stance uptime, AP availability, Burn or critical triggers, or survival. Glass Cannon is a damage-for-survival trade, not a default choice. FinalBoss cautions against it when incoming damage is already causing failures.
Which Maelle build should you choose?
| Build direction | Strength | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Progression Burn/Virtuose with Medalum | Connects Burn, a reliable route into Virtuose, and a heavy-attack payoff using progression-friendly tools. | Requires coordinating setup, stance entry, and AP before spending the attack. |
| Endgame Burn stacking with Esquium | Built around Burning Canvas, with Swift Stride for stance insurance and teammates supporting Burn and tempo. | Depends on later-game access and team setup; it is not a universal early-game stat or weapon recommendation. |
| Critical Burn with Brulerum | Offers an alternative centered on critical-hit-triggered Burn. | Favors a crit-oriented approach rather than the Medalum or Esquium route. |
| Self-sufficient Glaisum or Melarum | Stance-switch healing and cleansing utility can support safer play. | Shifts emphasis toward survival, including more Vitality, rather than a pure damage plan. |
| Counter-focused Jarum | Can connect counters with Virtuose and Burn. | Relies on counter execution and timing. |
| Stendhal single-target finisher | Provides a specialized endgame burst direction. | Outcome depends on setup, stats, the enemy, and version; it is not a guaranteed damage result. |
If you are learning a boss, prioritize a setup you can execute consistently over a fragile damage demonstration. The Gamer Headlines guide frames its builds as starting points, while the Maelle-focused FinalBoss guide lays out alternative weapon directions.
