Destiny 2: Forsaken received favorable reviews from critics, who praised its added variety, story, activities, Gambit, and endgame rewards. Players were more divided: Metacritic’s displayed user score was mixed, and Steam’s current Forsaken Pack reviews are mixed as well. The scores capture different audiences and points in time, so they are best read separately.
What was the overall review verdict for Forsaken?
Metacritic lists an all-platform Metascore of 82/100 from 41 critic reviews, classified as “Generally Favorable.” Its displayed breakdown is 34 positive reviews (83%), seven mixed (17%), and none negative. That is a favorable critical consensus, not unanimity.
Players rated it less positively on the same aggregator: Metacritic lists 6.5/10 from 356 user ratings, classified as “Mixed or Average,” with 58% positive, 13% mixed, and 29% negative. These are the page’s displayed figures as accessed in 2026; Metacritic scores and review totals can change.
How did the scores vary by platform?
Platform-specific Metacritic pages show different critic aggregates. Those scores should not be substituted for the all-platform total or treated as a direct comparison of game performance: each comes from a different set of reviews.

What did reviewers like about Forsaken?
Reviews emphasized how much Forsaken broadened the Destiny 2 experience. The expansion introduced a new campaign and destinations, three new Supers per class, additional activities and exotic quests, and Gambit—a mode combining player-versus-player and player-versus-environment play. Critics also highlighted the pursuit of worthwhile loot and the satisfaction of reaching the endgame.

GameSpot’s review excerpt, reproduced by Metacritic, says, “Gambit adds a consistently entertaining mode to the roster.” The excerpt also notes that the endgame can be difficult to reach, while describing it as a major source of satisfaction once players get there.
What were the main criticisms?
The praise came with qualifications. Some reviews found the campaign short, particularly beside the broader range of activities and longer-term goals surrounding it. Other criticism concerned quality-of-life issues, balance, or technical problems. The broad critical score therefore reflects a substantial improvement and expansion of the experience, not a claim that every part was equally polished.

Are current player reviews still positive?
Not consistently. Steam’s currently surfaced English review display for the Forsaken Pack was Mixed, with 43% positive from 1,964 reviews when accessed in 2026. That is a volatile, present-day user-rating snapshot for a Steam product listing—not a second critic score and not a direct measure of the expansion’s 2018 launch reception.
Is Forsaken worth playing now, and what is available?
As a review verdict, Forsaken stands out for adding a memorable story, more destinations and activities, Gambit, and meaningful endgame pursuits. Whether it is worth playing now depends in part on what content is currently included in the edition available to you. Bungie’s launch-era description records a broader Year 2 package, while the currently surfaced Steam Forsaken Pack listing highlights the Shattered Throne dungeon and Last Wish raid and requires the Destiny 2 base game. Current entitlements and in-game availability can differ from the original release.

The 82/100 all-platform critic score is a useful point of reference, but it does not by itself establish that Forsaken is better than every other expansion. A fair comparison should match the platform and review period, then consider the campaign and story, destinations and activities, endgame and raid content, and what remains available today. The scores above establish Forsaken’s reception; they do not provide a complete, like-for-like ranking of the series.
