To set up a modded DayZ dedicated server, install the stable server with SteamCMD, download the required Workshop items, place their folders and signing keys where the server can use them, then launch with the appropriate -mod or -serverMod arguments. Bohemia Interactive’s Linux guide shows this workflow using Community Framework and Community Online Tools as examples; those mods are not required for every server. Start with the official Linux hosting guide, then check the current installation notes and dependencies for each Workshop item you plan to run.
What you need before installing
Bohemia Interactive lists Windows Server 12–16, Windows 10 or later, or Linux as supported operating-system options on its DayZ Server Requirements page. The same page lists an Intel dual-core 2.4 GHz processor or AMD dual-core Athlon 2.5 GHz processor, 6 GB of RAM, and 2.5 GB of storage. It highly recommends an SSD for the installation and logs.
These are the published baseline requirements, not a sizing guide for a modded workload or a target player count. The page does not state how much additional CPU, memory, or storage a particular mod list or population needs.
Prepare a Linux host safely
Bohemia Interactive’s Linux guide includes package-installation examples for Debian, RHEL, and Arch, followed by instructions for downloading SteamCMD. Treat those as distribution-specific examples, not universal commands. The guide gives this explicit security warning: “Do not run the server as root!” It explains that using a normal user makes it more difficult for an attacker to reach the rest of the operating system if the server is compromised.

Install or update the dedicated server
The Linux guide uses SteamCMD to install the stable DayZ dedicated server with app ID 223350. It notes that the same command sequence can update the installation. Follow the current official guide for your operating system and intended branch; the page gives a separate Experimental branch app ID, so do not substitute branch identifiers casually.
In the stable installation command, SteamCMD uses +force_install_dir to choose the destination, +login to authenticate, and +app_update 223350 to install or update the server. Use the exact syntax in the official Linux guide for your setup.

Download and install Workshop mods
Bohemia Interactive’s Linux example downloads Workshop items for Community Framework (CF) and Community Online Tools (COT) through SteamCMD, using Workshop app ID 221100 and the items’ IDs. The guide then links the downloaded Workshop directories into the server directory, copies the mods’ signing keys into the server’s keys folder, and supplies the folder names in the server launch command.
CF and COT are examples in the documentation, not mandatory mods or a guarantee of compatibility with every server release. Before installing any item, read its current Workshop description for dependencies, installation steps, supported versions, and whether it is intended for clients, the server, or both. Workshop items and their requirements can change.

Choose the correct mod argument
The configuration reference distinguishes two launch options:
-modlists mod folders to load for the server and its clients.-serverModlists server-side mods that are not broadcast to clients.
Do not infer which argument a specific Workshop item needs from its name. Check that item’s current documentation. In the Linux example, multiple folder names are supplied after -mod= and separated with semicolons. Match the names and paths to the folders you actually installed.

Configure and launch the server
The server configuration filename is selected with the -config launch argument. Bohemia Interactive warns that the server will not launch if required settings are missing. Its configuration reference covers settings such as hostname, description, passwords, whitelist, maximum players, signature verification, voice, third-person view, crosshair, and server time.
The same reference documents launch parameters for the listening port, profiles directory, mission, logs, BattlEye path, CPU count, frame limit, mods, server mods, and storage path. Consult it for exact syntax and defaults rather than relying on an old third-party template; configuration details may change.

Use a graceful shutdown
Bohemia Interactive recommends shutting the server down gracefully to avoid negative effects on player characters and saved server storage. For planned maintenance, use the shutdown method in the current official documentation rather than abruptly terminating the process.
Verify the installation before inviting players
After launch, validate the server as an operational check: confirm that it starts without errors, inspect its logs, check that the expected mod folders load, and test a client connection. These are practical troubleshooting steps, not a complete official firewall or port-forwarding checklist. The reviewed Bohemia Interactive pages do not provide a comprehensive current network setup guide or workload-specific capacity table.

-configand whether required settings are present. - If a mod is missing or fails to load, verify its folder name and path, the corresponding
-modor-serverModentry, signing keys, and dependencies against that item’s current instructions. - If clients cannot join, confirm that they are using the required compatible mods and investigate the host’s network and port setup; the official pages cited here do not establish a full checklist for that step.
Self-hosting or using a managed host
Self-hosting gives you direct responsibility for the operating system, server configuration, files, logs, mod updates, and restarts. A managed service may take on some administration, but features differ by provider. Before choosing one, confirm its current DayZ support and check access to configuration and logs, Workshop mod handling, restart controls, backups or exports, and network location. Bohemia Interactive’s documentation shows that Linux self-hosting and configurable server launches are possible; it does not endorse a hosting provider or establish current provider prices.
