When did Season of the Infernal Hordes release?
Blizzard announced the launch for August 6, 2024, at 10 a.m. PT. The season began alongside the game’s 1.5.0 launch update. Blizzard’s season announcement and its 1.5.0 patch notes document the launch date and initial tuning.

What was Infernal Hordes?
Infernal Hordes was a wave-based activity available on both Seasonal and Eternal Realms. Players could enter alone or with friends. After completing an introductory questline and reaching World Tier III, they faced timed waves of enemies, collected Burning Aether, and chose among three Infernal Offers after waves. Offers added boons and banes that could stack, increasing both the danger and potential rewards of a run.
How a run worked
- Complete the introductory questline and access the activity in World Tier III.
- Fight through timed enemy waves and gather Burning Aether.
- Choose one of three Infernal Offers after waves; its benefits and drawbacks shape the remaining challenge.
- Defeat the Fell Council at the end of the run.
- Spend the Burning Aether earned during the run on Spoils of Hell rewards.
How did Seasonal and Eternal Realm access differ?
Both realms received the Infernal Hordes activity, but Seasonal Realm characters had an additional seasonal progression path. Blizzard said the “The Eyes of the Enemy” quest, which introduced Infernal Hordes in World Tier III, would remain available on both realms after the season ended.

Seasonal Realm Hellbreach Dungeons offered a shorter version of the activity’s loop: players fought an event, could choose an optional Infernal Offering, faced a boss, and spent their Burning Aether before leaving.
What else did the season add?
Blizzard announced over 50 new Uniques and Legendary Items for the season. Its Battle Pass had 90 reward tiers: 28 Free Tiers and 62 Premium Tiers. What were the Infernal Hordes launch rules?
The following numbers describe the PC launch build documented in Blizzard’s August 6, 2024, 1.5.0 patch notes; they should not be read as a statement of current live balance.

The same launch notes said Infernal Compass acquisition became more frequent, chest rewards increased, and chest prices decreased. Those changes describe launch tuning, not a guarantee that the same values or balance remain in the live game.
