Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf Diablo IV keeps closing, freezing, or disconnecting on PS5, try these ten checks in order. Start with updates and reversible settings before considering a reinstall or asking support for help. No single step is guaranteed to fix every crash, and an error code alone does not reveal the cause.
Before troubleshooting: record what happens and check for known issues
Note whether Diablo IV closes to the home screen, freezes, or loses its connection. Record the exact error code, what you were doing when the problem occurred, your PS5 model, and the steps you have already tried. That information is useful when reporting the issue to Blizzard.
First check Blizzard’s Breaking News, BlizzardCS, and Diablo IV support forums for current notices. Blizzard’s technical resource advises checking known issues and directs players to console help for crashes, performance, installation, and connection problems: Diablo IV technical troubleshooting.
10 PS5 checks for Diablo IV crashes
-
Capture the symptom and error code
Write down what the game was doing immediately before the failure, what happened on screen, and any exact error message. If the game closes without a code, note that too. A clear description helps distinguish a repeatable crash from a disconnection or a one-off freeze.

Check Blizzard’s current notices
Look for a Diablo IV service notice or a reported issue matching your symptom before changing console settings. If Blizzard has identified an active issue, local troubleshooting may not resolve it; follow the current notice for updates.
-
Check for a Diablo IV update
From the PS5 home screen, highlight Diablo IV, press the Options button, and choose Check for Update. Install an available update, then launch the game and see whether the same crash occurs. PlayStation specifically recommends updating the game for error CE-108255-1.

Update PS5 system software
Open Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings, then check for an update. Install one if offered and retest the game. Updating both the game and the console is recommended in general PS5 crash guidance.
-
Restart the PS5
Use the PS5 power menu to restart the console, then reopen Diablo IV. This is a basic, low-risk check—not a confirmed Diablo IV-specific fix. If the crash returns, continue rather than repeatedly restarting as a substitute for diagnosis.

Test Performance and Fidelity modes
If you can reach the game’s graphics options, switch from the current mode to the other available Performance or Fidelity setting and test the same activity. Change only this setting for the test, and note the original choice so you can restore it. General PS5 crash guidance recommends trying the other graphics mode; it does not establish that either mode is a proven Diablo IV fix.
If you cannot reach the in-game menu, a console-level game preset may offer a way to test a different mode: check Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Game Presets. Available choices can depend on the game and console setup.

Temporarily turn off VRR
Go to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output and temporarily turn off VRR if it is enabled. Test the game, then restore the original setting if the crash pattern does not change. Treat this as an isolated troubleshooting test, not a confirmed Diablo IV remedy.
-
Temporarily turn off HDR
In Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output, temporarily change the HDR setting and retest separately from VRR. Record the original setting and restore it if there is no difference. Testing one display feature at a time makes it easier to tell whether a change affected the crash.

Save manually if possible; consider reinstalling if crashes continue
If the game remains playable, create a manual save and load it as a troubleshooting check. If crashes continue consistently, consider deleting and reinstalling Diablo IV. General PS5 crash guidance lists both actions, but neither guarantees a repair. Before deleting anything, check what game data will be removed and how your save data is handled.
-
Escalate repeated failures safely
For a persistent crash, contact PlayStation Support with the error code and the checks you have tried. If the issue appears specific to Diablo IV, also report it to Blizzard with the console model, what you were doing, what appeared on screen, and the crash pattern. PlayStation’s page for CE-108255-1 describes it as “An error occurred with the game/application,” recommends updating the game, and directs players to PlayStation Repairs for further help: CE-108255-1 error code.
Do not rebuild the PS5 database as an early experiment. General crash guidance advises contacting PlayStation Support first because local data may be at risk.
What CE-108255-1 does—and does not—tell you
PlayStation labels CE-108255-1 as a game/application error. The code does not, by itself, identify a Diablo IV bug or prove that the PS5 has a hardware fault. It can help support staff understand what happened, but it is not a diagnosis of why the game closed.
