Can you still play Diablo 4 for free on Steam?
No. Blizzard’s September 15, 2026 announcement set the free-play deadline at September 21, 2026, at 10 a.m. PT. That promotional window has passed. Steam’s current Diablo IV listing presents the game as a paid purchase; check the live page for current pricing or any later promotion.

What did the free Steam offer include?
The promotion covered the Diablo IV base game, all classes and progression up to level 30. Blizzard’s announcement does not say that expansions were included, and it does not establish whether trial progress carries over, so neither should be assumed.
This was a time-limited promotion, not a change to Diablo IV’s ongoing price. Steam’s general explanation of free-to-play games describes the platform category broadly, but does not extend this expired offer.

Do Steam players need a Battle.net account?
Yes. Blizzard says Steam players must buy the game on Steam and connect it to a Battle.net account, a requirement it applies across platforms. The Steam launch announcement also says Steam players can use Steam achievements and their Steam friends list, invite friends in-game, and play across platforms. The Steam listing identifies the Battle.net account as a third-party account requirement.
