But that design intent is not the same as guaranteed comfort on every phone. In the 2025 closed beta, players raised concerns about text and button size and visibility during battles.
What you do in a match
Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy is a 3v3 team boss battle arena for iOS and Android. Teams hunt monsters near a crystal to purify it and build Bravery. At maximum Bravery, a player can unleash Bravery Burst to damage the boss; the team then uses abilities to defeat it before the opposing team does. That gives a match a focused objective rather than requiring players to navigate a complex battlefield. Square Enix’s official system page describes the battle loop and character roles.
Can you play it with one hand?
That is an explicit design goal, not just an assumption based on the game being on phones. In its October 14, 2025 announcement, Square Enix described “simple controls that let you play with just one hand.” The game also divides characters into four roles—Melee, Ranged, Agile, and Support—so players can choose between frontline combat, distance, mobility, or helping allies. The announcement supports the one-handed premise, but does not establish that every action or screen is equally comfortable for every player.
What the closed beta says about usability
Square Enix’s closed beta ran November 7–14, 2025, with 40,000 testers across Japan, the United States, and Canada. The figures below are from survey respondents, and Square Enix cautioned that they may not represent all testers.

- 36% commented on text or button size, or on visibility during battle.
The development team said it planned adjustments to text and tappable areas, an option to keep teammates’ Bravery and HP information in fixed UI positions, and tap-and-hold ability activation alongside flick activation. These are reported beta feedback and planned changes, not an independent assessment of how the current version feels on a particular device. Square Enix’s beta report has the details.
Touchscreen or controller?
Touchscreen controls are the intended starting point, and the game does not require an external controller. Controller support was absent in the beta and planned for release; Square Enix also said it could not guarantee compatibility with every controller. If you prefer physical input, treat a Bluetooth mobile game controller as an optional route and check that the specific model works with the game, your phone, and its operating system before buying or relying on it.

Availability and purchases
Square Enix’s official English game page currently labels the game “Available Now” and links to the App Store and Google Play. Japan’s official service began March 24, 2026. Those sources do not establish current availability in every country, so check your regional store listing. The game is free to play, with item purchases; Square Enix warns that in-app purchases include randomized virtual items. The cited official page does not state current prices or purchase odds.

The format is a reasonable fit if you want short, objective-led team battles and prefer touch controls or one-handed play. The main uncertainty is legibility and control comfort on your own screen: beta feedback specifically identified text, buttons, and battle visibility as areas needing attention. If those are deal-breakers, try the game on your device before investing in optional purchases or accessories.
