It depends on the game. If it supports Epic Games Cloud Saves, Epic says you’ll keep progress already made. If it doesn’t, uninstalling may remove save files stored in the game’s installation folder. Check the game’s Cloud Saves support and make a local backup if support or save-file location is uncertain.
What happens to your progress when you uninstall?
Epic Games Store support says, “If the game supports Cloud saves, you’ll keep any progress you’ve already made.” Cloud Saves are game-specific, though, and not every game supports them. Without Cloud Saves, save files stored in the installation folder may be removed when you uninstall.

Epic’s uninstall and save-progress FAQ explains the distinction. Uninstalling and reinstalling does not by itself guarantee that local progress will be preserved.
Check whether the game supports Cloud Saves
- In Epic Games Launcher, open Library.
- Open Filters, then look under Features and select Cloud Saves.
- You can also check the game’s Store page for Cloud Saves in its Features tags.
These are the checks Epic documents in its guide to checking Cloud Saves support. Verify the exact game rather than assuming the feature is available across your library.

Back up local saves if Cloud Saves are unavailable or uncertain
Epic lists this as one possible local save location:

Save locations vary by game, and some games store files elsewhere. Epic also lists these common locations to check:

Copy the game’s save folder to a separate safe location before uninstalling. Epic’s local save locations guide notes that if you cannot find the files, contact the game’s developer for help locating them.

Handle Cloud Save conflicts without overwriting newer progress
A conflict can occur when you play offline on one device and later use Cloud Saves across devices. When Epic presents a conflict prompt, choose the newer file if it contains the progress you want to keep. Choosing the older file can lose progress, and Epic warns that progress lost this way is not recoverable. See Epic’s instructions for handling Cloud Save conflicts.

- Open Library in the launcher.
- Select the game’s three-dot menu.
- Choose Uninstall, then confirm by selecting Uninstall again.
Those steps follow Epic’s game-uninstall instructions. Using the launcher to uninstall does not establish that local saves are safe; save protection still depends on the game’s Cloud Saves support and where its local files are stored.
