In Bedrock Edition, the official iron-golem targeting example excludes creepers. That supports a yes for the documented target-selection behavior, but it does not establish the rule for every situation or for Java Edition.
What the Bedrock documentation says
Microsoft’s Bedrock stable documentation for minecraft:behavior.target_when_pushed describes a behavior that lets a mob target another mob when pushed by it. In the Iron Golem example, the target filter selects entities in the monster family and excludes entities in the creeper family. The creeper exclusion is explicit in the example’s filter.

That is evidence that Bedrock iron golems do not target creepers through this documented behavior. The page was last updated on April 21, 2026.
Why the general description can be misleading
Mojang’s “Meet the Iron Golem” describes golems as wandering until they see danger, then attacking it. That broad description does not specify creeper targeting or distinguish editions. Likewise, Mojang’s general guide to Minecraft mobs identifies creepers as hostile and explains their explosive attack, but it does not say that iron golems target them.

Does this apply to Java Edition?
The cited official material does not settle Java Edition behavior, nor does the Bedrock example prove what happens in every possible targeting circumstance. So the careful answer is: Bedrock’s documented iron-golem target filter excludes creepers; the same conclusion cannot be confirmed here for Java Edition.
