The list celebrates how pace, strength and agility could make certain players feel far more effective than their ratings suggested—but it is an editorial ranking, not a measured all-time leaderboard.
Who tops the ranking?
The three players in the article’s highest category, “Controller breakers,” are:

- Seydou Doumbia (FIFA 15) — GiveMeSport’s list singles out his pace and effectiveness. Sports Illustrated’s 2019 retrospective reports 93 pace on his FIFA 15 card.
- Victor Ibarbo (FIFA 14) — Remembered for the combination of pace, agility and physical presence that made him difficult to contain.
- Emmanuel Emenike (FIFA 13) — A powerful, fast forward whose card became a recurring FUT fan favourite.
GiveMeSport also recalls Doumbia and Ibarbo alongside Gervinho as a potent attacking combination. These are the publication’s judgments and recollections, not conclusions from a disclosed gameplay test. Sports Illustrated’s 2019 retrospective likewise revisits Emenike and the Doumbia-Ibarbo-Gervinho trio, evidence of their place in FUT nostalgia rather than proof of an objective ranking. What “overpowered” means in this list
Here, “overpowered” describes the way a historical FUT card was perceived to perform relative to expectations, not a formal rating category. The ranking offers no scoring formula or consistent statistical test. Its implied criteria include pace, strength, agility and dribbling, finishing, and how readily a player could fit into a squad.
#1 Best Overall
- New Football Worlds - Frostbite injects even more detail into the worlds of FIFA 17. Experience all new environments like tunnels, locker rooms, the manager's office, and the team plane.
- Experience Life in the Premier League - For the first time ever in FIFA, live your story on and off the pitch as the Premier League’s next rising star, Alex Hunter. Play on any club in the Premier league, for authentic managers and alongside some of the best players on the planet. Experience brand new worlds in FIFA 17, all while navigating your way through the emotional highs and lows of The Journey.
That distinction matters: a card can feel unusually effective because its attributes suit the game’s mechanics or because it offers a useful squad link, even if it is not one of the highest-rated cards. “Best” in this context means memorable and feared by players, not definitively superior across every FIFA edition or mode.

Why pace became part of the legend
Several entries show why speed is so prominent in accounts of these cards. GiveMeSport reports 96 pace for Marvell Wynne’s FIFA 13 card and Jonathan Biabiany’s FIFA 15 card. Sports Illustrated reported 94 pace for Gabby Agbonlahor’s FIFA 10 card, and 92 pace and 86 dribbling for Nilmar’s FIFA 12 card. These are historical figures attributed to those publications, not ratings for present-day releases.
Pace was not the only ingredient in the reputation. Strength could help a forward resist challenges, while agility and dribbling could make a fast player harder to track. The articles’ nostalgia also reflects squad-building: players remember not just individual attributes, but combinations that worked together in their FUT teams.

Why the headline says 50 but the list names 49
The five categories contain 8, 15, 17, 6 and 3 entries respectively: 49 distinct players in total. Although the headline promises 50, the published category lists do not identify a fiftieth name, and the article does not resolve the discrepancy. There is no reliable basis to add another player.
How to read this ranking
Treat it as a snapshot of FIFA community memory, published by GiveMeSport on 27 September 2022 and carried by OneFootball in partnership with Yahoo Sports. Its one-appearance-per-player format and tier labels make it a curated retrospective, not a comprehensive statistical comparison. The recurring names in a separate 2019 retrospective show that these cards endured as fan talking points; they do not establish a universal ordering of the most effective cards across every game or FUT era.
