DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO reached an all-time peak of 122,554 concurrent players on Steam on 11 October 2024, according to SteamDB. That makes it a record-setting launch in commonly used Steam fighting-game comparisons, but the number is a Steam concurrency record—not a count of copies sold, unique players, or everyone playing across platforms.
What does “most-played” mean here?
The 122,554 figure measures the number of people playing the Steam version at the same time at its recorded all-time high. SteamDB lists the PC release date as 10 October 2024 UTC and the peak on 11 October; those UTC dates can differ from local release-day marketing dates.
It is a peak snapshot, not an average or current player count. It also does not include PlayStation or Xbox activity, and it cannot tell us how many people bought the game or played it at other times. The record is therefore best understood as a Steam concurrent-player milestone.
How should its fighting-game record be read?
Sparking! ZERO is a 3D Dragon Ball fighting/action game built around arena battles. Whether it ranks as the “most-played fighting game” depends on which titles a comparison includes: arena fighters, traditional 2D or 3D fighters, platform fighters, and broader action games do not always share one genre boundary.

SteamDB supports the title’s dated peak, but the available evidence does not establish a complete leaderboard that classifies every Steam game consistently and compares all-time peaks on the same basis. The sound claim is that Sparking! ZERO set a 122,554-player Steam peak and ranks among the largest launches in commonly used fighting-game comparisons—not that it definitively outranks every possible competitor by a known margin.
What kind of game drew that launch audience?
The Steam store page describes a high-speed 3D battle experience featuring more than 180 fighters. It lists single-player, online PvP, shared/split-screen PvP, and Remote Play Together. Those features describe the game’s offering; they do not, by themselves, explain why it reached its peak.

Bandai Namco introduced it as a new entry in the Budokai Tenkaichi series and announced PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam in its June 7, 2024 announcement. The publisher has also described the series as centered on immersive character battles. In Bandai Namco Holdings’ Integrated Report 2025, Jun Furutani, an assistant manager in the company’s CE Business Division, said the games emphasize “a character immersion experience” rather than the win-or-lose focus of highly competitive games. That is the publisher’s perspective on the series, not an independent assessment of its competitive scene.
How do sales figures compare with the Steam peak?
Sales and concurrent players are different measures, with different scopes. Bandai Namco Holdings’ 2025 report says the game sold over three million units in its first 24 hours. In a separate announcement, Bandai Namco Entertainment America reported more than five million units sold worldwide; the announcement page does not provide a publication date in the available material.

Those are publisher-reported global sales milestones. They should not be added to, or substituted for, SteamDB’s 122,554 concurrent players: the peak counts simultaneous Steam players, while sales cover units sold worldwide across platforms and time.
Which platforms and modes are included?
The Steam concurrency statistic is for the PC version on Steam. Bandai Namco’s launch announcement named PS5 and Xbox Series X alongside Steam for PC, so console audiences fall outside SteamDB’s count. The publisher’s sales announcement also describes Episode Battle, Custom Battles, online/co-op modes, and a roster of 182 characters; its roster count is a publisher figure, while Steam’s store listing says more than 180.

For that reason, avoid turning a PC chart record into a claim about the game’s total audience. A cross-platform population, total unique players, and a Steam all-time peak answer different questions.

A historical peak shows how many Steam users were online simultaneously at one moment in the game’s history. It does not show how many are playing today. Current Steam counts change continually, and console activity is not represented in the Steam chart. A current-activity claim needs a live count checked at a stated time; the dated all-time peak alone cannot establish whether the game is active now.
