No—not in the standard release. Call of Duty: Black Ops II does not provide a supported, general-purpose developer console for typing cheat commands. Custom match settings are a separate feature, and unofficial modifications are not the same thing as an in-game command prompt.
Does Black Ops 2 have a developer console?
For the standard game, players should not expect an exposed developer console for entering general-purpose commands. A Steam community reply about Black Ops II Zombies likewise says developer console commands and cheat codes are not allowed, but that is user-generated guidance—not an official technical specification. Activision identifies Black Ops II as a Treyarch-developed first-person shooter released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Wii U. The question is often asked by PC players, but the game’s console platforms should not be assumed to have a supported command prompt either. Activision’s Black Ops II page.
Are custom games the same as console commands?
No. Custom game configurations let players adjust match variables through game settings; they do not amount to a general-purpose console where arbitrary commands can be entered. In a 2012 PC Gamer interview, Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia said, “You don’t need a dedicated server to give people the variables they need to create a custom game.” His remarks describe custom-match configuration, not an official developer-console feature. #1 Best Overall
- An all-new Call of Duty - Black Ops storyline featuring new characters and returning characters
- Unique single-player campaign that contains two time periods linked by characters and their actions
- Special Strike Force missions, in which the players action affect the outcome of gameplay and the overall campaign
- Variety of multiplayer modes and play options
What about private matches, mods or modified clients?
Lamia also distinguished private play from public community play when discussing anti-cheat: “Look—you want to do that stuff in a custom, private game, that’s your business, but if you’re playing out there in the world, in the community, we are going to try to make it fun for as many people as possible.” This is context about Treyarch’s anti-cheat priorities, not permission to run arbitrary code or proof that Black Ops II has a supported command system. PC Gamer’s interview.
Activision’s enforcement policy says running modified game code or using a modified profile is subject to penalty. It lists a permanent online ban for a first offense; for PC players on Steam, it also refers to Steam enforcement. The policy covers unsupported peripherals or applications used to interact with the game as well. These rules do not establish the outcome for every particular third-party tool, so do not assume a modification-based workaround is authorized. Activision’s security and enforcement policy.

How to assess a guide that lists BO2 commands
- Check which game it covers. Commands from another Call of Duty title do not establish that they work in Black Ops II.
- Check which version or setup it describes. A guide may refer to the original release, a mod or an unofficial modified client; those are not interchangeable.
- Check what “commands” means. A custom-match setting is not evidence of an exposed developer console.
- Check the source and risk. Community posts can offer clues, but they are not official support. Modified code, profiles and unsupported tools can carry enforcement consequences.
