BioWare renamed Dragon Age: Dreadwolf to Dragon Age: The Veilguard on June 6, 2024. The studio said the new title better reflects the heroes and companions at the center of the story. BioWare also scheduled a gameplay reveal for June 11, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. PT, promising more than 15 minutes of footage from the game’s opening.
What is Dragon Age: Dreadwolf being renamed to?
The replacement title is Dragon Age: The Veilguard. BioWare announced the change on June 6, 2024, replacing the previously announced name Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. The change was a new title announcement; BioWare did not say it represented a plot rewrite or a change in development scope.
Why did BioWare change the name?
BioWare General Manager and Dragon Age Executive Producer Gary McKay said the old title did not convey how strongly the team felt about the new heroes, their stories, and bringing them together to save Thedas. The studio described the companions—not the enemies—as the heart of the experience.
The rename does not mean the Dread Wolf is absent from the story. BioWare said, “the Dread Wolf still has an important part in this tale.” Its explanation focused on what the new title should foreground, not on removing the character from the narrative.

When was the gameplay reveal?
BioWare scheduled its first official gameplay look for Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time, on the Dragon Age YouTube channel. The studio promised more than 15 minutes of gameplay from the opening moments. That date has passed: BioWare’s June 11 journal notes that the reveal trailer had already premiered at the Xbox Showcase on June 9.

EA described Dragon Age: The Veilguard as a single-player fantasy RPG coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. BioWare’s June 11 journal also identified three combat classes: Warrior, Mage, and Rogue.
