EVERSPACE 2 is well suited to players who want fast space combat, loot-driven ship builds, and a story-led tour through handcrafted locations. Reviews are favorable overall, but the game is strictly single-player and its arcade-action focus is not the same as a deep space-flight simulator or a multiplayer sandbox.

Reviewers commonly praise the combat, equipment progression, exploration, presentation, and amount of content. PC Gamer summed up its review with: “Shooting, looting and RPGing in space has rarely been this good.” A GamingTrend review excerpt hosted by Metacritic highlighted the fast combat, story, and connected systems. These are outlet assessments, not guarantees that every player will enjoy the same parts of the game.

Scores offer a favorable snapshot, not a permanent verdict. When accessed in 2026, Metacritic’s PC critic page displayed an 81 Metascore (“Generally Favorable”), based on 41 listed reviews: 31 positive, five mixed, and none negative. Steam showed 87% positive from 7,248 English-language user reviews, plus 80% positive from 75 recent reviews in the preceding 30 days. Those Steam totals and percentages can change over time. What kind of game is EVERSPACE 2?
It is a single-player spaceship shooter with action-RPG and looter-shooter systems. Steam describes exploration in space and on planets, combat, loot, mining, crafting, and a handcrafted open world. ROCKFISH Games developed and published it. The full PC release arrived April 6, 2023, following Steam Early Access, which began January 18, 2021. It is not built around the original game’s roguelike loop
EVERSPACE 2 makes a substantial structural change from its predecessor. PC Gamer describes a more conventional open-world adventure: dying reloads a checkpoint instead of ending a run and sending the player back through a roguelike meta-progression loop. If you want persistent exploration and gear progression rather than repeated run resets, that change is central to the sequel’s appeal. PC Gamer’s review discusses the shift.

The game’s balance is the key trade-off: it pairs arcade-style combat and RPG loot systems with story-led exploration. It is not a promise of simulation-level piloting or an endlessly player-directed universe. Steam lists the game as single-player, so do not buy it expecting co-op or online multiplayer. How does it play on PC?
PC Gamer’s review reports support for mouse and keyboard, gamepads, flight sticks, and HOTAS controls. The reviewer also described performance on a system equipped with a GeForce RTX 3080 and characterized the requirements as relatively mild in that review’s context. That is one reviewer’s setup and experience, not a current performance guarantee for every PC. Check the store’s system requirements against your own hardware before buying. Steam lists the base game, Galactic Edition, Complete Edition, expansions, a supporter pack, soundtrack, and art books among its store items. What each bundle includes and its price can change, so compare the live listing rather than relying on an old price or assuming editions are identical across platforms.
