The report described a handheld built around PS5 Remote Play. Sony’s confirmed related device is PlayStation Portal, which now supports both Remote Play and cloud streaming for selected games; Sony’s reviewed official materials do not confirm a separate new handheld, its name, specifications, price, or release date.
What did the Q Lite report say?
Insider Gaming reported that Sony was developing a handheld codenamed Q Lite. The outlet described it as a device that would rely on a PS5 and use Remote Play, rather than stream games from the cloud. That was a report about an alleged product in development, not a Sony announcement. Read the original report.

The article page now displays a later update claiming Sony confirmed the name “PlayStation Portable.” The Sony product and investor materials reviewed here do not corroborate that claim. It should not be treated as a verified product name or announcement.
Is Q Lite the same as PlayStation Portal?
There is no verified basis for saying they are the same device. Q Lite is the codename used in the 2023 report; PlayStation Portal is hardware Sony has officially announced and sells. Sony’s current Portal page describes a Remote Play device and does not identify it as Q Lite or as a successor to that rumored product. Sony’s PlayStation Portal product page.

What PlayStation Portal can do
Remote Play from a PS5
Portal can play compatible PS5 and PS4 games installed on a PS5 over Wi-Fi. The console remains part of this Remote Play setup; the game is not running locally on Portal. Sony lists 5 Mbps as the minimum connection speed and recommends at least 15 Mbps for a better experience. These are Sony’s connection guidelines for Portal, not requirements announced for Q Lite or another future handheld. See Sony’s current Portal details.
Cloud streaming for selected games
Sony now also supports cloud streaming on Portal for selected PS5 games with a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription. Eligible games include titles from the Game Catalog and Classics Catalog, as well as selected digital PS5 games in a player’s library. This differs from the original Q Lite report, which described a device dependent on a PS5 and using Remote Play rather than cloud streaming; it does not establish that Q Lite and Portal are the same product.

Has Sony announced another handheld?
The Sony sources cited here confirm PlayStation Portal and its capabilities, but do not confirm a separate standalone PlayStation handheld, the name “PlayStation Portable,” or any future device’s specifications, price, or release date. They also do not establish whether a future handheld would run games locally, what it would play, or how it might relate to PS6. Treat claims about such hardware or its timing as rumors unless Sony announces them through an official channel.
