Bandai Namco confirmed on April 20, 2026, that the Dragon Ball game project first announced as “AGE 1000” is DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 3. The publisher calls it the long-awaited sequel to Xenoverse 2 and is targeting a 2027 release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The “fans are certain” framing is not evidence of a measured fan consensus; it is the official announcement that settles the game’s identity.
How AGE 1000 became Xenoverse 3
Bandai Namco first announced a new Dragon Ball game project called “AGE 1000” at Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri in January 2026. The announcement described a new world, original characters, and a 2027 target, but did not name the game as a Xenoverse sequel. Bandai Namco’s AGE 1000 announcement was published January 26, 2026.

On April 20, at Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026, Bandai Namco identified the project as DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 3. The publisher described it as the sequel to Xenoverse 2. So AGE 1000 was not announced as a separate game in the material reviewed: it was the project name and setting associated with the game that became Xenoverse 3. The April 20 announcement is the official confirmation.
What AGE 1000 means in the game
AGE 1000 is also the name of the game’s new Dragon Ball setting. Bandai Namco has described West City as a central location and the Great Saiya Squad as part of the story. The player creates a protagonist and joins the squad in a world featuring original characters, including Brett, Lilica, ROM, and Tap. Those details come from the publisher’s June 23, 2026 West City update.

Character creation and announced races
Bandai Namco’s September 3, 2026 character-creation update lists six selectable races:
- Earthling
- Saiyan
- Namekian
- Frieza Race
- Majin
- Android
The publisher says players can customize their character’s appearance, inherit techniques from Super Fighters, and choose fighting styles based on the movement and abilities of 130 heroes. This is a feature count reported by Bandai Namco, not an independent assessment of the roster or gameplay. The announcement is available in its character-creation update.

What Bandai Namco has said about combat
A July 9, 2026 gameplay update describes squad missions for up to four players and combat built around Ki management and connection-based mechanics. The named systems include Ki Break, Break Smash, Super and Ultimate Attacks, Battle Styles, Soul Assist, and Soul Switch. The publisher also says race-specific transformations include Super Saiyan. These are announced descriptions, not findings from independent hands-on testing; Bandai Namco said additional races and playstyles would be revealed later. See the July combat update for its account of the systems.
Release target and platforms
Bandai Namco’s stated target is 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The announcement does not give a specific release date. Pricing, preorders, and a physical edition were not established in the official material cited here, so they should not be treated as confirmed details.

What the announcement means for Xenoverse 2
Bandai Namco calls Xenoverse 3 the long-awaited sequel to Xenoverse 2. The April 2026 announcement also revealed FUTURE SAGA: Chapter 4 as the final DLC chapter for the earlier game, nearly 10 years after its original release. That makes Chapter 4 the final announced DLC; it does not establish that Xenoverse 2 is discontinued or that its online services have ended.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Were fans actually certain?
The official announcements establish the sequence: AGE 1000 was revealed first, and Bandai Namco later named it Xenoverse 3. They do not establish how many fans expected that reveal. No representative poll or comparable measure of fan opinion is cited, so “fans are certain” works as a headline hook, not a factual claim about what most fans believed.
