Starsand Island mixes farming, crafting quests, exploration, building, and relationships. Here’s what the early access version showed—and what’s known after Version 1.0.

Starsand Island is a pastoral life sim built around farming, crafting quests, island exploration, home-building, animals, and relationships. It is no longer an early access game: the studio’s Version 1.0 launch was reported for August 18, 2026, and official Steam announcements list Version 1.09.7731 updates as of September 23, 2026. This is a retrospective look at what the early access version offered and what the available evidence can—and cannot—say about the game today.

What is Starsand Island?

The official Steam description presents Starsand Island as a relaxed island life simulation. Its advertised activities include growing tropical fruits and vegetables, befriending animals, building and decorating a countryside villa, exploring the island, and spending time with capybaras, cats, and dogs. The Moonlit Forest is another named destination. Those are the developer’s store-page promises, rather than independently verified judgments about how well each activity works.

In a February 2026 overview, PC Gamer characterized the early access game as a crafting-forward farming and life sim. It described quests that send players to collect components and use crafting stations, comparing that station-based loop to Palia and My Time at Portia. The article also noted creature breeding and automation, though these were smaller parts of its account of the game. That is one writer’s framing, not a formal genre classification.

What does playing it involve?

Gather, craft, and progress through quests

The available description suggests that crafting is more than an optional side activity: PC Gamer’s account describes quests organized around collecting materials and processing them at stations. Players looking for a farming sim with a strong crafting-and-progression loop may find that structure appealing. Those who want farming to be the dominant activity, with little task-driven crafting, should treat that as a point to check against their preferences.

Farm, build, and explore

Farming crops, shaping a home, and exploring the island form the game’s broader pastoral pitch. The store listing also emphasizes animal friendships and the Moonlit Forest. The sources establish these as advertised activities, but do not provide comparative measurements of farm depth, building flexibility, or exploration variety against other life sims.

Develop relationships and spend time with animals

Friendship progression and animal companionship are part of the game’s stated appeal. PC Gamer reported that its writer reached two of five friendship tiers with some characters during an early access playthrough, but that partial milestone does not establish how much dialogue, romance content, or relationship variety the finished game contains.

How much content did early access provide?

PC Gamer reported that developer Seed Sparkle Lab estimated at least 100 hours of early access content. The same writer said they spent 23 hours completing the first in-game season, reaching two of five friendship tiers with some characters, and attaining rank two of five in four professions. The 100-hour figure was the studio’s estimate as reported in 2026, not a guaranteed playtime; the 23 hours describe one reporter’s progress and should not be read as a completion-time benchmark.

Is Starsand Island still in early access?

No. GamesRadar reported that Seed Sparkle Lab announced Version 1.0 for August 18, 2026, including online multiplayer for up to four players. The studio’s announcement, as quoted by GamesRadar, called Version 1.0 “just the beginning” and said it would continue bringing content, improvements, and updates. That signals an intention to keep developing the game, but does not establish a specific future roadmap or delivery schedule.

The official Steam announcement feed lists Version 1.09.7731 updates dated September 23, 2026, with fixes and optimizations. This confirms post-launch patch activity through that date; it does not by itself prove that every system is complete or free of issues.

What happened when it was removed from Steam?

PC Gamer reported that Steam temporarily removed Starsand Island in April 2026 after the developer said a minigame contained core visual elements from a classic game without authorization. The studio said it submitted a revised build with that content removed and that existing owners would keep their progress. The reporting did not identify the classic game, so speculation about its identity should not be treated as fact.

The same PC Gamer report covered allegations of fake positive reviews, which the studio denied responsibility for. Those allegations and the studio’s denial are not, on their own, independent proof of who was responsible. The documented account of the minigame issue is a relevant part of the game’s early access history, but it does not establish the state of the current build.

Can you play Starsand Island on Steam Deck?

PC Gamer’s February 2026 overview listed the game’s Steam Deck compatibility status as “Playable.” That is a dated label for Steam Deck generally, not a current performance test, a model-specific assessment, or a guarantee for every device and later build. A handheld PC such as Steam Deck OLED is one optional way to play the Steam version, but the cited compatibility note does not establish how it performs on that particular model.

Is Starsand Island worth playing?

The case for trying it is strongest if you want a broad, relaxed life-sim mix: farming and island exploration alongside crafting quests, home-building, animal friendships, and relationship progression. The early access account points to a substantial progression loop, while the 1.0 announcement adds an online mode for up to four players. Whether the crafting-heavy structure, the depth of its social and customization systems, and the polish of the current version suit you cannot be settled by the dated early access account or the patch notices alone.

There is also no established current critic consensus or stable Steam review total in the sources cited here. If you are deciding based on player sentiment, current bugs, or the state of specific systems after launch, check up-to-date reviews and recent player reports rather than relying on early access impressions.
