What does DP mean in Sparking! ZERO?
DP is a game-system value used in DP Battles, where it shapes team composition and balance. Bandai Namco’s May 26, 2026 update says DP differences were adjusted to be more pronounced in online and offline play, and notes that DP Battle totals of 10, 15, or 20 can be selected. Those are team-budget options, not a scouter reading of a fighter’s canonical strength. Bandai Namco’s update notice is the relevant dated reference.
That distinction matters because the update describes balance changes to the DP system. A character’s DP cost can help determine whether a team fits a chosen total, but it should not be treated as a direct ranking of story power. The official update does not publish a universal lore-based ranking of the roster.
What does online play show?
Online is not a single character-ranking screen. DP Battle uses team composition and DP totals; Custom Battle lets players share and play scenarios online. The official Dragon Ball announcement confirms online Custom Battle scenarios, a distinct feature from DP Battle’s team rules.

Bandai Namco’s official character page lists the game’s characters and identifies online play as supported. It is useful for roster and game context, but it does not establish a per-character power-level table.
How to compare characters without conflating the numbers
When evaluating fighters, keep separate the things a single “power level” label can blur:

- DP cost: a team-building value used in DP Battle.
- Combat attributes: in-game characteristics, which should be discussed as gameplay rather than assumed to equal lore strength.
- Abilities and transformations: features that affect how a fighter plays, not proof of a canonical numerical ranking.
- Mode and update: a comparison should identify whether it concerns DP Battle, Custom Battle, or another mode, and which game update it reflects.
Balance is time-sensitive. The May 26, 2026 notice is a dated snapshot; later updates could change DP distinctions or gameplay. Any claim that one fighter is strongest, or that one character’s DP cost compares a particular way with another’s, needs a specified version and mode.

Character parameter progression in the NEO Limit-Breaker Journey is another separate system: official coverage describes it as a single-player feature in which players allocate points to character parameters as they progress. It should not be confused with online DP Battle values. The official NEO DLC announcement describes that mode.
