EA Sports College Football 25 is at its best when it makes a Saturday game feel like an event—and when it gives you the keys to build a program of your own. Its launch-era strengths in presentation, on-field play and Dynasty make it an easy recommendation for college-football fans, though Road to Glory is less compelling and the updated controls take some learning.
What is EA Sports College Football 25?
Released July 19, 2024, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, College Football 25 marked EA’s return to college football games after an 11-year gap. EA announced 134 FBS schools, and at launch described the game as featuring more than 150 stadiums and thousands of current college football athletes. Those are publisher-reported counts, not independent measurements. EA’s announcement and launch announcement give the original scope.
Why the game-day presentation stands out
The clearest reason to play is how the game frames college football: stadium pageantry and atmosphere are central to the experience, not just a backdrop for the plays. Forbes praised the visual presentation in its July 19, 2024 review, after reviewing the retail version. GameSpot reviewer Andrew McMahon, who played on Xbox Series S using a publisher-provided code, said: “EA Sports College Football 25 perfectly encapsulates what attending a college football game is like.” That is a reviewer’s judgment, but it captures the game’s strongest appeal.
The presentation also helps distinguish the game from a simple reskin of EA’s professional-football series. GameSpot praised its atmosphere, movement and responsiveness. Tom’s Guide described play as fluid and fast, with reviewer praise that “EA has delivered by producing one of the best pigskin games in years.” These are launch-era evaluations, not claims about current online services or later updates.

How the gameplay systems work
EA’s CampusIQ feature set is designed to reflect differences in players, teams and venues. It includes Wear & Tear, composure, homefield advantages and distinct team playstyles. EA describes Wear & Tear as representing physical impacts, while fatigue is intended to account for conditioning and snap counts. The updated controls can take time to learn, particularly if you are returning after years away or are new to the series. Tom’s Guide specifically criticized the lack of tutorials for those controls. Expect some practice before the game’s speed and responsiveness feel natural.

EA describes Dynasty as a program-management mode shaped around the contemporary college landscape, including recruiting, retention and the transfer portal. Game Informer praised coaching chemistry and recruiting, making Dynasty the most persuasive choice if you want depth beyond individual games. Road to Glory is a more uneven proposition. It offers a distinct created-player career, but Tom’s Guide found the mode lackluster. The overall mode lineup is therefore less consistent than the stadium presentation and core play. The official PlayStation 5 product listing describes the modes and discloses optional virtual currency purchases for that listing.

Who should play College Football 25?
- Strongest fit: College-football fans who want a lively game-day atmosphere, responsive on-field play and a coaching mode built around recruiting and program development.
- More qualified fit: Players chiefly interested in a single-player athlete career; Road to Glory is present, but launch reviews were less enthusiastic about it.
- Plan for a learning curve: The updated controls are not explained as thoroughly as some players may want, so newcomers and lapsed players should allow time to practice.
- Interested mainly in online play: Road to the College Football Playoff and Ultimate Team are available, but launch-era praise for the game does not establish the present state of online services.
