Online-only delays can come from the connection; offline hitching or slow-feeling play points you to investigate local performance. Neither symptom alone proves the cause, and network trouble can also look like visual stuttering.
First, separate online lag from PC stuttering
Players may use “lag” to describe different problems: delayed response to inputs, brief visual hitching, or play that feels slow. Start by comparing the same kind of gameplay in an offline mode and an online match. This is a useful clue, not a definitive diagnosis: online symptoms can involve both the connection and local performance.
- Only online matches feel delayed or hitchy: investigate connection quality first, especially if offline play is smooth.
- Offline and online play both hitch or feel slow: check the PC’s specifications and the game’s display and graphics options.
- Both kinds of symptoms occur: work through both checks rather than assuming one cause explains everything.
EA says that delays or interruptions while game data travels can affect online play: “Any delays or interruptions during this process can cause lag, visual stuttering, or a full disconnection.” Its Connection Quality guide describes ping, packet loss, and jitter as measures of that connection.
For online-only problems, check connection quality
EA describes the online route as involving your local network, the wider internet and your internet service provider (ISP), and EA’s game data centers. A problem can occur beyond your home network, so a single test cannot identify every source.

- Ping is the round-trip time for data. Higher delay can make responses feel less immediate.
- Packet loss means some data packets fail to complete the trip.
- Jitter is variation in ping over time; inconsistent delay can make a connection feel uneven.
Use EA’s Connection Quality information and tools to inspect these measures. If you currently play over Wi-Fi, compare with a wired Ethernet connection under similar conditions. That can help investigate variation on the home Wi-Fi link, but it cannot fix offline rendering stutter or control ISP routing, the wider internet, or EA’s game data centers. An Ethernet cable is useful here only as a diagnostic comparison, not a guaranteed remedy.
Check your PC against FC 24’s listed requirements
Steam’s FC 24 support listing gives minimum and recommended PC specifications. Compare your actual CPU, memory, graphics card, Windows version, DirectX support, and available storage against the listing before changing settings or considering an upgrade. Meeting the minimum is not a guarantee of smooth performance.

These are the requirements in Steam’s listing for FC 24, whose release date it gives as September 28, 2023. They are reference points, not a diagnosis of a particular PC. The listing does not establish that buying more RAM or a different graphics card will solve an individual player’s problem; consider hardware changes only after identifying a relevant limitation and checking compatibility.
Compare FC 24’s documented PC display options
EA’s 2023 FC 24 PC update documents configurable display and graphics options, including resolution and display mode, refresh rate, vertical sync (V-sync), frame-rate limits, and cutscene, crowd, and grass quality. It added 90 FPS and 120 FPS limit options; those are available choices, not EA-recommended targets or guarantees of smooth play.

- Note the current settings and choose a repeatable situation in which to compare performance.
- Change one option at a time: for example, adjust the resolution or display mode, frame limit, refresh rate, V-sync, or one of the listed quality settings.
- Repeat the comparison in the same situation and note whether the symptom changes before testing another option.
EA does not identify one universally best frame cap or V-sync setting for every PC. Avoid changing several options at once: if the result changes, you otherwise will not know which adjustment mattered.
Use later EA performance advice cautiously
EA’s current dedicated PC performance article is for FC 27, not FC 24. It describes symptoms such as delayed input even offline, slow-motion gameplay despite apparently normal average FPS, periodic stutter, and frame-time spikes. Those examples can help distinguish local performance symptoms from online connection problems, but they are not an FC 24 diagnosis or a title-specific fix.

The FC 27 guidance also identifies background load, drivers, power, and memory configuration as general PC performance variables. Treat these as areas to investigate if the problem appears offline as well; the FC 24 sources cited here do not confirm that changing any one of them will resolve FC 24 stutter.
