The test involved optional virtual currency for cosmetics; it was not a report that the closed alpha remains active today.
Why did EA add microtransactions to the closed alpha?
Insider Gaming reported on March 12, 2025, that players in the ongoing closed alpha could purchase and use San Van Bucks, citing a message attributed to developer Full Circle. The message said the option was enabled “to ensure we achieve these goals at Early Access” and asked players for feedback to help provide a good purchase experience at launch. That was the studio’s stated reason for adding the feature to the test.

San Van Bucks were described as a way to buy cosmetic items. The report did not describe the alpha purchases as a way to buy gameplay power.
Did closed-alpha purchases carry over?
According to Insider Gaming’s report, alpha progress could reset during the playtest and would be fully reset before Early Access. The reported arrangement treated spending differently: San Van Bucks and items bought with them would be converted back into San Van Bucks and made available at Early Access if players used the same EA account for both the playtest and Early Access.
