Which Akechi choice are you looking at?
There are two separate conversations that can be confused because both involve Akechi and a promise or rivalry. The rank 7 Justice Confidant conversation takes place earlier; the nighttime prompt comes after you prepare to assault Shido’s Palace. The choice that guides specifically recommend for Akechi’s additional content is the later nighttime answer.

Does the rank 7 answer send you toward a bad ending?
No. The available guides and player-answer evidence do not identify “I’ll think about it” as a bad-ending choice. The same sources say “You’re my rival” is also acceptable for the associated Akechi content. The ending concern should not be conflated with the later promise prompt: the guides connect that nighttime choice with Akechi’s extra content, not an ending lock.
How Akechi’s Confidant progression fits in
In Persona 5 Royal, Akechi’s Justice Confidant has story-based progress after rank 8. RPG Site says ranks 9 and 10 occur through story progression if you reach rank 8 before November 17. This timing is useful context for completing his Confidant, but it does not make the rank 7 dialogue answer the sole requirement for later content.

What the guidance does—and does not—establish
Atlus describes Confidants generally as relationships that can broaden and improve abilities, but its official Persona 5 Royal site does not detail Akechi’s individual dialogue flags. The specific advice about these answers comes from secondary guides and a player Q&A. Those sources support choosing “I want to keep our promise” for the later additional-content prompt, but do not conclusively establish every cumulative prerequisite or all platform and version differences.
