For an easy early-game Dexterity weapon, use the Uchigatana: Samurai characters start with it, and other origins can find one in Deathtouched Catacombs. If you want more reach, a Strength/Dexterity build, or a different moveset, Nagakiba, Bloodhound’s Fang, and Guardian’s Swordspear each offer a distinct tradeoff. There is no single best choice for every build, and the available guides do not establish a patch-specific damage ranking.

Quick comparison: which Dexterity weapon fits your build?

Weapon Earliest realistic acquisition Requirements Class and reach Innate bleed Ashes of War and build fit
Uchigatana Samurai starting equipment, or Deathtouched Catacombs 11 Strength, 15 Dexterity Katana; standard katana reach Yes Good early option for a Dexterity-focused character; the cited guide does not specify its Ashes of War flexibility.
Bloodhound’s Fang Defeat Bloodhound Knight Darriwil at Forlorn Hound Evergaol in Limgrave 18 Strength, 17 Dexterity Curved greatsword; heavier class than a katana Yes Locked to Bloodhound’s Finesse and cannot take Ashes of War; better suited to a Strength/Dexterity spread than pure Dexterity.
Nagakiba Yura’s quest route, with the exact location depending on quest progression; alternatively, kill Yura 18 Strength, 22 Dexterity Katana with particularly long reach Yes Suited to players who value reach and bleed; requires a larger stat investment than the Uchigatana. The cited guide does not specify its Ashes of War flexibility.
Guardian’s Swordspear Farm Erdtree Guardians in the areas described below 17 Strength, 16 Dexterity Halberd; distinct moveset and reach from the katana options Not stated in the cited guide Dexterity-focused halberd alternative; the cited guide does not specify its Ashes of War flexibility.

Requirements and acquisition details are reported by the cited weapon guides; they are not a controlled damage comparison or a ranking for a specified game patch.

Best easy early pickup: Uchigatana

The Uchigatana is the straightforward recommendation if you want to start using a Dexterity-oriented weapon without first defeating a boss or meeting a high stat requirement. The Samurai begins with one. Other starting origins can find one in Deathtouched Catacombs.

Its listed requirements are 11 Strength and 15 Dexterity. That makes it easier to try early than Nagakiba, which asks for more of both stats, while its katana class keeps it familiar to players who prefer quick melee weapons. Choose it when accessible, low-requirement availability matters more than a longer weapon or a different moveset.

Early hybrid standout: Bloodhound’s Fang

Bloodhound’s Fang is a curved greatsword dropped by Bloodhound Knight Darriwil at Forlorn Hound Evergaol in Limgrave. It inflicts blood loss, but it is not the cleanest match for a pure-Dexterity build: the cited guide lists 18 Strength and 17 Dexterity requirements, so plan for a Strength/Dexterity spread.

The weapon is locked to Bloodhound’s Finesse and cannot accept Ashes of War, according to the cited guide. That fixed skill is a tradeoff: pick the Fang if its weapon class and built-in skill suit you, rather than if you want to customize the weapon with another Ash of War.

Long-reach katana: Nagakiba

Nagakiba is the reach-focused katana in this group. It also causes blood loss, but its 18 Strength and 22 Dexterity requirements make it a more demanding choice than the Uchigatana. It fits a character that can meet those requirements and values reach over getting a weapon as early and easily as possible.

Finding Nagakiba through Yura

The weapon can be obtained through Yura’s quest. The cited weapon guide says Yura gives it at the end of the questline at the Second Church of Marika. A separate route guide describes finding it at his last location before Shabriri if the quest reaches that state, so the precise place to look depends on how the quest has progressed.

Taking the direct route

Killing Yura can also yield Nagakiba, but that choice ends his questline. Take this route only if you are willing to give up that quest progression; otherwise, follow the quest route and check the location appropriate to its current state.

Halberd alternative: Guardian’s Swordspear

If you want a different weapon class instead of another katana or curved greatsword, Guardian’s Swordspear offers a halberd moveset with a Dexterity focus. It requires 17 Strength and 16 Dexterity. The cited guide reports a 2% drop chance from Erdtree Guardians around Minor Erdtrees or near roots leading to Erdtree Sanctuary in Leyndell, Royal Capital.

That reported rate comes from a third-party guide, and the drop is random: expect farming rather than a guaranteed pickup. It is a sensible alternative if the halberd style appeals to you, but a poor choice when you need a predictable early weapon.

How to choose without chasing a misleading “best” ranking

  • Choose Uchigatana for an easy early pickup and modest listed requirements.
  • Choose Bloodhound’s Fang if you want an early curved greatsword with bleed and are building Strength as well as Dexterity.
  • Choose Nagakiba if long katana reach is your priority and you can meet its higher requirements or follow Yura’s route.
  • Choose Guardian’s Swordspear if you prefer a halberd moveset and accept the time involved in farming its reported random drop.

These are fit-based recommendations, not a verified damage order. The available guides do not provide controlled, comparable damage testing or identify a balance-patch version for such a ranking. Your stat spread, weapon class preference, acquisition timing, and appetite for farming are more useful decision points than an unsupported claim that one option is universally strongest.
