At TennoCon 2024 in London, Ontario, he told MobileSyrup that a shared love of games, memories of 1999 and the game’s passionate community helped make the role feel right. He also offered a distinctly local observation: Tim Hortons seemed to be everywhere near the event.
How Ben Starr joined Warframe
Starr knew of Warframe through creators he respected and a documentary about the game’s history, but said he had not played it before he was approached. His connection with Rebecca Ford, the game’s creative director, grew out of their shared interest in games. Ford eventually invited him to read for Arthur.
Starr had recently spent years working on Final Fantasy XVI, where he played Clive Rosfield. He saw a similar intensity of fan enthusiasm in Warframe’s community. “I get to be a part of a community that is as passionate about the thing that they love as the franchise that I’ve just been spending however many years doing that myself, so it felt like a no-brainer,” he told MobileSyrup.
How Starr and the team shaped Arthur
Starr described developing Arthur’s voice and personality in collaboration with Ford and the team. He characterized the character as direct, with the quality of a squad leader, while the creative process also looked for ways to make him approachable and human. The MobileSyrup conversation touched on romanceable characters and player customization as part of the then-upcoming Warframe: 1999 update; those comments reflect the project as discussed in July 2024, not a current feature guide.

What 1999 and Y2K meant to him
Starr was 11 in 1999, an age he described as formative. His recollections combined the fear surrounding Y2K with a sense of renewal and possibility at the turn of the millennium. The period’s music and aesthetic also carried a strong nostalgia for him.
“I was 11 years old in 1999 — I remember it — the most formative years of my life.”

Ben Starr, speaking to MobileSyrup at TennoCon 2024
Revisiting that era through the update’s setting let Starr return to a period he remembered from childhood, now with an adult perspective. “So to get to revisit that as an adult and play in that sandbox has been super, super fun,” he said. A separate CGMagazine interview also captured his reflections on 1999 and Y2K.

Starr’s Tim Hortons story from London, Ontario
While in London for TennoCon 2024, Starr joked that he had never seen Tim Hortons locations packed so closely together, estimating four within a five-minute walk. That was his impression of the area around the event, not an independently verified count. He said his first Tim Hortons visit had been in Toronto and that he was trying to visit more locations during his time in Canada.
He also recalled a breakfast order: a sausage, egg and cheese biscuit with a hash brown, plus a double espresso. It was a personal anecdote from his 2024 visit, rather than a review or a guide to current locations or menu offerings.

Starr’s account links three parts of the role: a conversation with Ford that led to an audition, collaborative work to find Arthur’s character, and personal memories that made the 1999 setting resonate. His Tim Hortons remarks add a light-hearted snapshot of being in London during TennoCon. These are Starr’s recollections from interviews published July 25, 2024, not claims about the game’s current features or local restaurant counts.
