Players associated the behavior with the July 2022 v21.20 update. The available accounts do not include an official Epic Games diagnosis, and there is no established statistic or attributable Epic statement about this specific issue. What to try if Fortnite’s sliders visibly reset
- Open Fortnite’s Audio settings. Check the in-game volume sliders after the reset occurs and identify which ones changed.
- Raise the affected levels to your preferred values. Players reported manually restoring the levels as a workaround; this is not a guaranteed or officially confirmed fix.
- Check after the next transition. Enter a match or return to the lobby and see whether the same sliders drop again.
- If it keeps happening, record the details. Note your platform, game version, which sliders changed, and whether the trigger was entering a match or returning to the lobby.
A player in one discussion also suggested trying the reset option on the Audio settings page. That is another user-reported workaround, not a verified solution, so note your preferred levels before using it.

If the sliders stay put but your headphones stop working
Headphone audio crashing or stopping while Fortnite’s sliders remain unchanged is a different symptom from settings resetting to 0%. Epic’s support article for headphone audio crashing after launching Fortnite on PC instructs users to inspect the recording device’s Exclusive Mode settings through mmsys.cpl, then restart Fortnite. Follow that procedure only if the PC headphone-crash symptom matches; the article does not establish it as a fix for the v21.20 slider-reset reports.
