If FIFA or another EA football game says “Origin not installed,” don’t download an old Origin installer or edit the Windows registry. EA says the EA app has replaced Origin on PC and Mac. Why FIFA may still mention Origin
The error uses a launcher name that EA no longer uses for current PC and Mac gaming: EA says the EA app has replaced Origin. EA also says its app is required to play EA games on PC when they are launched through Steam or Epic. Try these checks in order
1. Make sure the EA app is installed and current
Install or open the EA app rather than following an older guide that tells you to install Origin. EA lists support for 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11 on PC; its Mac app requires macOS Catalina or newer. Update the app if it offers an update, then sign in with the EA account associated with your game. 2. Check the EA account and game library
In the EA app, confirm you’re signed into the account that owns or has access to the game, and see whether FIFA appears in that account’s library. If it does not appear, avoid buying or installing a second copy until you have checked the account and storefront used for the original purchase. The account and library check is a troubleshooting step; EA’s app page does not identify it as the cause of this specific message.
3. Keep Steam or Epic in the launch chain if that is where you installed the game
If your PC copy was installed through Steam or Epic, start it from that storefront and allow the EA app to open when prompted. EA says the EA app is required for EA games on PC launched through either storefront. Don’t try to bypass the EA app by launching an old Origin executable. 4. Clear the EA app cache if the game is missing or the client is stuck
EA recommends clearing the cache for certain EA app problems, including games that appear missing from the library and downloads or updates that are stuck. On Windows, use this path:
- Open the EA app and select the three-line menu in the top-left corner.
- Choose Help, then App Recovery.
- Select Clear Cache and let the app restart.
If the EA app will not open, EA gives this alternate route on Windows 10 and 11: open Start > All Apps > EA > App Recovery > Clear Cache. Cache clearing can help with the listed client and library problems; EA cautions that it will not fix an outage or servers going down, and it is not a guaranteed fix for every launch error. 5. Verify local files for a Steam installation if files may be damaged
For a game installed through Steam, use Steam’s integrity check if you suspect damaged or incorrect local files. In Steam, open Library, right-click the game, choose Properties > Installed Files > Verify Integrity of Game Files. Steam says this process checks and repairs incorrect game files. 6. Contact EA if the message persists
If the current app, correct account, storefront launch, and relevant recovery step do not resolve the problem, contact EA Help. Include the game edition, whether it was installed through the EA app, Steam, or Epic, your Windows version, the exact error text, and whether the game appears in the EA app library. These details can help support narrow down the issue; they are not a published EA-required checklist.

Why old Origin fixes are risky
An EA staff reply in a January 2014 Battlefield 3 forum discussion connected a missing Origin registry entry with Battlelog failing to detect Origin. That historical explanation concerns Battlefield 3 and Battlelog, not a current FIFA diagnosis. It may explain why older search results recommend reinstalling Origin or changing registry entries, but it is not a sound basis for manually editing the registry to fix today’s FIFA launcher message.
