The date came from an Epic Games post; a direct announcement by CEO Tim Sweeney was not verified. Fortnite is currently available through the App Store on iPhone and iPad except in Australia, with regional alternative-store and cloud-play options.
When did Fortnite return to iOS?
Epic Games announced the App Store return on May 19, 2026. The announcement said the game was back on the App Store worldwide, while also noting that it had not returned to the Australian App Store. The current availability details below reflect Epic’s support pages and may change as regional rules and store listings are updated.
How can you play Fortnite on iPhone or iPad now?
The right route depends on your country and whether you want to install the game or stream it. Epic currently lists these options:
| Route | Availability and details |
|---|---|
| Apple App Store | Epic says Fortnite can be downloaded from the App Store on iPhone and iPad worldwide except Australia. Check your regional App Store listing for current compatibility and download details. |
| Epic Games Store for iOS | Epic lists access in the EU on iPhone and iPad, and in Japan and Brazil on iPhone only. The Epic Games Store app requires iOS 17.6 or later. These are marketplace-app requirements; they should not be mistaken for a stated iOS requirement for the App Store version of Fortnite. |
| AltStore PAL | Epic lists this alternative marketplace in the EU. Check current country, device, and marketplace eligibility before installing. |
| Cloud gaming | Epic lists Xbox Cloud Gaming, NVIDIA GeForce NOW, and Amazon Luna. These are streaming alternatives, not native App Store downloads; service availability, device requirements, accounts, and pricing vary. |
Epic’s mobile installation guide and iOS availability support page provide the current route and regional caveats. Verify eligibility for your location and device rather than assuming that a marketplace option works everywhere.

What to check before downloading
- Confirm your country’s supported route on Epic’s current support pages; App Store availability excludes Australia.
- Use the App Store listing for your own region to check the game’s current device compatibility, version, and download size.
- If using the Epic Games Store app, confirm that your region and iPhone or iPad model are supported and that iOS 17.6 or later is installed.
- If choosing cloud play, check the service’s current local availability, account requirements, device support, and pricing directly with that service.
Apple’s US App Store listing showed Fortnite as a free Epic Games app with in-app purchases and a 4.5 GB download size when checked in 2026. That is a live, region-specific listing detail, not a fixed size for every country or future version.
Can you use a controller?
Yes. Epic says Apple-compatible controllers work with Fortnite on Apple devices, but does not endorse a particular model. Check compatibility with the controller manufacturer for your exact device; Epic says it does not provide support for issues involving external devices. A controller is optional, not a requirement to play.
