GamesBeat named Games for Change president Susanna Pollack its 2026 Visionary Person of the Year and selected Amir Satvat for the Up-and-Comer Award. The awards were presented on May 19 at GamesBeat Summit 2026 in Los Angeles.
Who won the GamesBeat Summit 2026 Visionary Awards?
Susanna Pollack received Visionary Person of the Year, and Amir Satvat received the Up-and-Comer Award. GamesBeat confirmed the results in its June 2026 retrospective, and its Summit agenda lists both honorees in the awards presentation.
The ceremony ran from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. on May 19. Larry Hryb emceed; Leo Olebe presented the Visionary Award, and Richard Browne presented the Up-and-Comer Award.
What do the two awards recognize?
| Category | GamesBeat’s stated distinction | 2026 recipient |
|---|---|---|
| Visionary Person of the Year | A person who has shown vision over a career in gaming. | Susanna Pollack |
| Up-and-Comer Award | A person whose accomplishments are ahead of them. | Amir Satvat |
GamesBeat editorial director Dean Takahashi gave those descriptions in the organizer’s March 25, 2026 judging announcement. The announcement says a panel of judges votes on candidates and selects the recipients. It does not describe a detailed scoring rubric or a public nomination process, so the awards should not be characterized as public-vote honors.

Why were Pollack and Satvat recognized?
Susanna Pollack
GamesBeat credited Pollack with leading Games for Change’s work to position interactive media as a tool for education, social impact, and civic engagement. Its account also cited the organization’s expanded global reach and partnerships, including collaborations with the United Nations and UN agencies. This is GamesBeat’s explanation of its award decision.
Amir Satvat
GamesBeat said Satvat was recognized for community service during industry layoffs and instability. The announcement credited him with mobilizing resources, building support networks, and connecting game-industry professionals with new opportunities. These points reflect the organizer’s stated rationale.

How the awards fit into the event
The awards were presented at GamesBeat Summit 2026, held May 18–19 in Los Angeles. GamesBeat describes 2026 as the ninth Visionary Awards ceremony since 2018; the Up-and-Comer category began in 2020 and was in its seventh year.
The Visionary Awards are separate from GamesBeat’s BOSS Mode awards, which recognize women in the games industry. The Summit’s official page reported 600+ attendees, 150+ speakers, 70% of attendees at director level or above, and 90% of speakers at C-level. These are GamesBeat’s own 2026 event figures; the page does not provide independent auditing or underlying methodology. It also calls gaming a “$200 billion industry,” an organizer characterization rather than a market estimate accompanied by a cited study.
