Genshin Impact Version 5.1, titled “The Rainbow Destined to Burn,” added Xilonen, two permanent Archon Quest acts, new weapons and enemies, and a range of interface and system changes. The version launched in October 2024; its event schedules and compensation deadlines have passed, but the story and other permanent additions remain part of the game.
What Version 5.1 added
- New character: Xilonen, a five-star Geo sword user.
- Permanent story: Archon Quest Chapter V Acts III and IV, plus Act III of a Children of Echoes Tribal Chronicle.
- New equipment and enemies: four weapons and two enemies.
- System updates: Imaginarium Theater and Spiral Abyss changes, quality-of-life improvements, audio resource removal, and bug fixes.
- Historical events: Version 5.1 event phases and endgame rotations were tied to the 2024 patch cycle and are not current schedules.
When Version 5.1 launched
HoYoverse scheduled maintenance for October 9, 2024, at 06:00 UTC+8, with an estimated duration of five hours. The notice listed 300 Primogems for maintenance compensation, calculated at 60 per hour of downtime, and a separate 300 Primogems for issue fixes. These were historical rewards, not current offers. Maintenance compensation required Adventure Rank 5 or above by the start of maintenance and had to be claimed before Version 5.1 ended. Issue-fix compensation had an October 12, 2024 claim deadline. Both were sent through in-game mail, which expired after 30 days. HoYoverse’s Version 5.1 update notice gives the original terms.
The update instructions said PC players should use the Genshin Impact Launcher, iOS players the App Store, Android players the in-game update directions, and PlayStation 4 and 5 players the console’s Check for Update option.
New character: Xilonen
Xilonen is a five-star Geo sword character and a Name Engraver of the Nanatzcayan. Her Elemental Skill, Yohual’s Scratch, uses three Geo Samplers. Pyro, Hydro, Cryo, and Electro characters in the party affect the Samplers’ Soundscapes, which can lower enemies’ corresponding Elemental RES while active. Using the Skill puts Xilonen into Nightsoul’s Blessing and Blade Roller mode, with movement and climbing utility described in the update notice.
#1 Best Overall
Her Elemental Burst, Ocelotlicue Point!, deals area Geo damage. Its additional effect depends on the active Soundscapes: it heals nearby active characters or deals additional area Geo damage. These are the patch notice’s ability descriptions, not a current build or tier-list assessment.
Four weapons were added
The update introduced one five-star weapon and three four-star weapons. The effects below are those stated at Refinement Rank 1 in the official notice.
Rank #2
| Weapon | Type and rarity | Effect described in the notice |
|---|---|---|
| Peak Patrol Song | Five-star sword | Normal or Plunging Attack hits grant DEF and All Elemental DMG Bonus effects. Reaching two stacks or refreshing the second stack grants nearby party members an All Elemental DMG Bonus based on the wielder’s DEF, up to a stated cap. |
| Sturdy Bone | Four-star sword | Reduces Sprint or Alternate Sprint stamina consumption and increases Normal Attack DMG after sprinting. |
| Mountain-Bracing Bolt | Four-star polearm | Reduces climbing stamina consumption and increases Elemental Skill DMG; nearby party members using Skills increase that damage further. |
| Fruitful Hook | Four-star claymore | Increases Plunging Attack CRIT Rate. After a Plunging Attack hits, it raises Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attack DMG for a limited time. |
These are digital in-game weapons, not physical product recommendations.
Permanent story additions and unlock requirements
Archon Quest Chapter V, Act III: “Beyond the Smoke and Mirrors”
This act became permanently available with Version 5.1. The listed requirements are Adventure Rank 28 and completion of the preceding Archon Quest steps. Focused Experience Mode is available.

Act IV also became permanently available. It requires Adventure Rank 28 and completion of the previous Archon Quest act; Focused Experience Mode is available.
Children of Echoes Tribal Chronicle, Act III
“A Prayer for Blessings, Told to Crested Peaks” received a third act. Its listed requirements include Adventure Rank 28, completion of “A Fuel Named ‘Fate’” in the Archon Quest, and completion of Tribal Chronicle Acts I and II.
How Quick Start was described
The notice described Quick Start as a way to begin the relevant earlier Natlan Archon Quest while retaining progress in existing Archon Quests, then continue through subsequent Chapter V acts until reaching the latest Archon Quest or Tribal Chronicles available in the update. It did not remove every prerequisite for every quest.
New enemies and their mechanics
Secret Source Automaton: Configuration Device
This enemy is found at Toyac Springs. When characters maintain Nightsoul’s Blessing, it advances its Adaptive Countermeasures and prepares a Boltsphere Cannon. Its Accretion Mechanism gathers phlogiston and generates an energy field. The notice’s counterplay is to climb Solid Phlogiston and enter that field to destroy the mechanism and interrupt cannon charging.

Tenebrous Mimiflora
This Abyssal enemy can create a Void Ward. Some of its attacks apply stackable Attrition, which later removes HP from the active character. Elemental attacks can break the ward, and Nightsoul-aligned elemental attacks are more effective.

HoYoverse published separate previews for Version 5.1’s two event phases on October 7 and October 24, 2024. Those pages document the original event timing, not events that are still active: Phase I preview and Phase II preview.
Imaginarium Theater and Spiral Abyss
The update notice said a new Imaginarium Theater season would begin November 1, 2024, with Pyro, Electro, and Dendro as its required elements. It listed Opening Characters and Special Guest Stars, and noted new Thespian Tricks for Kazuha, Eula, Gorou, and Candace after the season began. The notice also specified separate first- and second-phase Spiral Abyss changes to Floor 11 Ley Line Disorders, Floors 11–12 enemy lineups, and Blessings of the Abyssal Moon. Those were patch-cycle details, not today’s endgame rotation.
Other game content
- Envisaged Echoes received new challenge stages and Echo cosmetics for Zhongli and Keqing.
- Genius Invokation TCG added Chiori and other Character Cards, Talent Cards, Action Cards, Tavern Challenges, and a Forge Realm’s Temper edition. The update also included card balance changes.
Quality-of-life changes, audio, and fixes
Interface and workflow improvements
- Settings shortcuts could automatically add five-star artifacts as enhancement materials and automatically lock four-star weapons.
- Material-source screens gained quantity information, and crafting gained character-based filters.
- The update improved crafting, forging, creation, Battle Pass, and bundle interfaces.
- The Character Artifact interface began remembering set filters and substat sorting.
- The Spiral Abyss interface gained a shortcut and a floor-skip reward function, subject to conditions involving completion of the previous cycle and full-star clears.
Audio changes and bug fixes
Version 5.1 removed audio resources from earlier versions, reducing audio-file storage relative to Version 5.0, according to the update notice. Other audio and presentation work included changes to enemy effects, Natlan music volume, sound attenuation, spam blocking, Theater interactions and text, Saurian Indwelling tutorial text, quest text, and character behavior. The notice also listed fixes affecting quests, enemies, characters, systems, audio, wildlife, devices, and localization.

HoYoverse noted that some Version 5.1 content lacked English voice-over because of recording arrangements and apologized for the inconvenience.
