If Genshin Impact stays on “Looking for Updates,” first make sure you’re updating through the official launcher or your platform’s update tool. Then check your connection and free storage. On PC, try HoYoPlay’s Repair Now option before reinstalling. If the download shows 100%, it may still be verifying game resources, so give that process time to finish.
HoYoverse’s guidance covers update and download failures generally; it does not identify this exact screen wording as a separate known fault or promise one fix that works in every case.
Start with the update method for your platform
Use the official launcher on PC and the platform’s own update tool on console or mobile. HoYoverse recommends the official launcher or platform update tool for Android, iOS, PlayStation, PC, and Xbox. Its Help Center article, How can I resolve game update or download failures, was updated August 26, 2025. If you need to reinstall on a phone or tablet, download Genshin Impact from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store rather than an unofficial installer.
- PC: Open HoYoPlay and use its update and repair controls.
- PlayStation or Xbox: Check for updates through the console’s own game-management interface.
- Android or iOS: Check for the update in Google Play or the App Store.
Avoid unofficial installers or repackaged game files; they can add risk and make it harder to determine whether the official update process is working.
Check whether the launcher is still working
If the download has reached 100%, the launcher may be verifying game resources rather than being frozen. HoYoverse describes verification after a download reaches 100% but does not set a specific time limit for it. Allow it to continue; if it remains there for an extended time, contact support rather than assuming repeated restarts will resolve it.
Work through connection, storage, and system checks
HoYoverse lists several possible causes of download and update failures. These are checks to make, not a diagnosis of what is causing your particular “Looking for Updates” screen.
- Test the connection: Make sure it is stable and not restricted. If practical, try another Wi-Fi network or connect the device directly to the router with an Ethernet cable. Restarting your router or modem is another option.
- Check free space and system resources: Confirm that the device has enough available storage and resources for the update.
- Check security and network tools: Firewall or antivirus interference can be a factor. For specific error codes, follow the narrower instructions below rather than disabling protections indiscriminately.
- Check system software and drivers: Outdated system software or unsupported drivers may contribute to failures.
- Consider an incomplete download: A corrupted or incomplete download can prevent an update from completing; on PC, use the launcher’s repair option before reinstalling.
HoYoverse’s article Why can’t I download or update the game? was updated September 30, 2025. A wired connection is only a useful optional test when the device can be connected to the router; it will not fix low storage, damaged launcher files, or a problem with a console or mobile store.

On PC, repair the game before reinstalling
If you use HoYoPlay, try its Repair Now option for relevant download or update failures. Restart the device, then try the update again. Reinstallation is a later step because it is more disruptive than checking the connection or repairing files.

If the launcher displays one of these PC error codes, use its specific network guidance. These steps are not established as universal fixes for an update that simply stays on “Looking for Updates.”

- PC error 6001: HoYoverse advises disabling a VPN or proxy and restarting the router or modem, or trying a wired connection.

When to contact HoYoverse support
Contact support if the update still will not proceed after the relevant platform checks, or if resource verification remains at 100% for an extended time. Include enough detail for support to identify the platform, reproduce the symptom, and distinguish a connection problem from a launcher or installation issue.
