Dan Gniady was reported to have joined 343 Industries as a Lead Game Designer in 2024, with a profile describing him as “doing game direction on a Halo experience” and “giving The Covenant back their bomb.” The report did not name the project, so it is not confirmed to be Halo 7—or Halo: Campaign Evolved.
What does “giving the Covenant back their bomb” mean?
The phrase comes from a profile attributed to Dan Gniady and reproduced in a July 1, 2024 report by Gfinity. The report also quoted the profile as saying Gniady was “doing game direction on a Halo experience.” These are profile phrases as reported by Gfinity, not independently verified interview quotes.
The wording hints at a Halo project involving the Covenant, but it does not explain the project’s plot, gameplay, or what “the bomb” refers to. The available report offers no further details that establish those specifics.
Who is Dan Gniady, and what role did he take?
Gfinity described Gniady as a former Bungie lead designer and reported that he had joined 343 Industries as Lead Game Designer. That hiring and role are claims made by the outlet; the material cited here does not include a direct studio announcement or an independently accessed copy of Gniady’s profile.

Is the project Halo 7?
That remains unconfirmed. Gfinity’s headline used “Halo 7,” but its report did not establish an official project name and allowed that Gniady might be working on another Halo project. The profile wording identifies a Halo experience, not a numbered sequel or a formally announced game.
Is it Halo: Campaign Evolved?
No source cited here connects Gniady’s 2024 profile to Halo: Campaign Evolved. Xbox Wire later identified that game as a complete Unreal Engine 5 remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, with updated visuals and animations, remastered music, re-recorded voice lines, weapons and vehicles from later Halo games, and three additional campaign missions. It supports two-player local split screen on console and up to four-player online co-op across Xbox, PC, and PlayStation 5, according to the Xbox announcement.

Halo Waypoint’s art feature discusses the remake’s use of original sketches, drawings, and design intent, and describes a new Covenant faction in its three bonus missions. That is additional context about Campaign Evolved, not evidence that Gniady is working on it.
