Hela is a Duelist built around accurate ranged pressure, with brief close-range control and a crow transformation for repositioning or escape. Her latest Hela-specific balance changes in the official notes reviewed through October 8, 2026, increased Nightsword Thorn’s base damage, improved its long-range falloff, and made Astral Flock more freely maneuverable. The practical loop is to take a clear firing angle, land deliberate shots, preserve an exit, and use her control and ultimate when the situation supports them.
Hela’s role and combat loop
Hela’s official hero page lists her as a Duelist with 250 health and 6 m/s movement speed. Those figures come from a page originally published in 2024; ability values and availability can change, so check the in-game hero panel after later updates. Official Hela hero and ability page

Her kit rewards choosing angles where targets are visible and shots can be placed accurately. Use Nightsword Thorn to pressure exposed enemies, keep Astral Flock available when a dive or dangerous sightline could force a retreat, and reserve Soul Drainer for threats that get close enough to enter its small radius. These are decisions based on the listed mechanics, not a guaranteed combo or a claim about a particular rank or matchup.

How to use Hela’s kit in a fight
Choose a firing angle that rewards accuracy
Nightsword Thorn is a direct-hit projectile, not a reason to fire indiscriminately at distant targets. Lead with accurate shots and prioritize critical hits when the opening is there. The July 2026 change gives her more damage before falloff reaches its long-range floor, but shots at 35 m still deal 75% of base damage rather than full damage.
Save Astral Flock for a purposeful move
Astral Flock can help Hela cross an exposed gap, relocate to a better angle, or leave a dive. Invincibility applies during the transformation; it is not a general shield after she returns. Because the ability has a 15-second listed cooldown, avoid spending it casually when opponents can punish her position. Its free-direction flight in Crow form makes the movement more flexible than a one-way escape.

Hold Soul Drainer for close threats
Soul Drainer’s 3 m radius and 0.3-second stun make it a short-range control tool. Position it around an approaching threat or a tight engagement rather than treating it as a ranged opener. Piercing Night serves a different purpose: its four projectiles stick on hit and detonate after three seconds, adding delayed pressure to a target or area.
Use Goddess of Death with a plan for the exposure
The ultimate gives Hela an aerial firing window for ten seconds, during which her crows create 125-damage explosions in a 6 m radius. That can pressure an area, but it also commits her to a visible airborne position. Start from a firing line with meaningful targets, and consider available cover and team protection before activating it; the ability’s damage does not guarantee eliminations.

What changed for Hela in the July 2026 balance update?
The official Marvel Rivals Version 20260710 Balance Post, dated July 6, 2026, made three Hela-specific changes:
- Nightsword Thorn’s base damage increased from 70 to 80.
- Damage falloff still begins at 18 m, but now reaches 75% at 35 m.
- Astral Flock now lets Hela fly freely in any direction while in Crow form.
- The Team-Up Anchor’s 15% damage bonus was removed.
The official Season 10 launch notes, published September 9, 2026, announced the season update beginning September 11 and mentioned Hela’s College Perk costume, but did not announce a Hela gameplay adjustment. The October 1 patch notes reviewed for this guide contain no Hela balance item. The July post is therefore the latest Hela-specific balance source among these official notes, not a guarantee that a later update has not superseded it.

Team-Ups and current availability
Hela’s official hero page includes Team-Up effect entries, but it does not establish which variants are active in Season 10. The Season 10 launch notes and October 1 patch notes cited above do not settle the current lineup either. Check the Team-Up panel in the current game client before planning around a specific pairing.
The official patch sources provide no Hela pick-rate, win-rate, rank-tier, or matchup statistics, so those cannot establish her current competitive standing. Her practical decisions are better grounded in the listed kit: weigh line of sight and cover, distance against weapon falloff, and whether Astral Flock or Soul Drainer is available for movement or control.
