Heihachi Mishima returned to TEKKEN 8 as a paid playable DLC character in October 2024. Bandai Namco also released Unforgotten Echoes, a separate free story update for TEKKEN 8 owners. The character and story chapter are different content: the story update does not make Heihachi a free fighter.
When did Heihachi release in Tekken 8?
Bandai Namco announced Heihachi’s return on October 1, 2024, alongside the story update Unforgotten Echoes. The rollout used different dates depending on time zone and access:

These were the scheduled release times in Bandai Namco’s v1.08.01 patch notes; they describe the 2024 launch, not a current store offer.
Is Heihachi free in Tekken 8?
No. Heihachi was paid character DLC. Early access was available to holders of the Playable Character Year 1 Pass, which Bandai Namco listed as included with the Deluxe Edition Upgrade Pack, Ultimate Edition, and Deluxe Edition. The patch notes describe those launch arrangements; check your platform’s current store listing for present-day purchase availability.

This mode serves as an introduction to the gameplay of TEKKEN 8, allowing players to acquire basic knowledge, learn practical techniques, and enjoy a unique storyline and battles different from regular matches. .
The free component was Unforgotten Echoes, a story update for TEKKEN 8 owners. In its October 1, 2024 announcement, Bandai Namco called the chapter free to owners while identifying Heihachi as a DLC character.
What is Heihachi’s role in the story?
Bandai Namco’s announcement says Heihachi, seemingly dead at the end of TEKKEN 7, has managed to cheat death. The chapter is titled Unforgotten Echoes. Heihachi’s official fighter profile calls him the “Resurrected King of Iron Fist” and says he was defeated by Kazuya and thrown into a river of lava, which led the world to believe he had died.

Who is Heihachi in Tekken 8?
Heihachi Mishima is a playable fighter whose listed fighting style is Mishima-Style Fighting Karate. The official profile labels him DLC. Bandai Namco said his addition brought the roster to 35 fighters at the time of the October 2024 announcement; that is a historical launch figure, not a current roster count.

The official TEKKEN 8 website lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Heihachi’s DLC is digital content for the game, so buying the base game alone should not be taken to mean the paid fighter is included.
