Use the lobby details to make an informed choice, and leave or report a session that stops being fun.
How to find a public lobby that suits you
In the current matchmaking flow, choose Play → Online → Find Game. The active-lobby list shows details such as map, player count, player speed, and whether roles are enabled. Open a lobby’s More or details view to inspect it before joining. Innersloth’s matchmaking guide explains the updated flow.
Use the Filters screen to narrow your search by options including mode, map, impostor count, roles, player speed, kill cooldown, voting time, visual tasks, anonymous votes, confirm ejects, and experience tags. Not every setting necessarily appears in the listing itself, so check the details view or filters. Match the options that matter to you rather than trying to specify everything: Innersloth notes, “the more options you have turned on, the fewer results you’re gonna find, so pick only the ones that are really important to you.”
Choose by mode, pace, and play style
- Mode: Pick Classic for social deduction built around tasks, meetings, and accusations, or Hide n Seek if you want that mode’s different pace.
- Map: Choose a map you enjoy or know well. If you are open to any map, leave that filter unset to see more options.
- Experience tag: Use tags to look for a lobby whose stated experience suits you, while treating them as a guide rather than a promise about how players will behave.
- Settings: Filter for the details you care about, such as player speed, roles, voting time, or visual tasks. Inspect the lobby before joining when you want to confirm its setup.
- Chat and language: Look for a compatible chat format and language so you can participate comfortably.
If the search finds no lobbies, remove filters you care about least or clear them and try again. More restrictions mean fewer possible matches; no filter guarantees a particular kind of session.

Pick a chat format you can use
Eligible players with a full Among Us account can use Free Chat. A child account can use it only with parental permission; temporary accounts cannot. When hosting or searching, choose between Free Chat or Quick Chat and Quick Chat Only filters. If the game will not let you change the chat option, the account may be temporary or missing the required parental permission. Child-account access follows the process described by Kids Web Services. Choose the chat format you are eligible for and comfortable using, then search for compatible lobbies. On an eligible logged-in account, the official FAQ also provides an in-game settings path for changing chat type. Do not try to bypass age or permission controls.

Make public-lobby play work for you
Among Us is a social deduction game: Crewmates complete tasks while one or more Impostors sabotage, kill, and try to frame others. Meetings and chat are part of the deduction, so state what you saw, ask focused questions, and accept that players may disagree or reach the wrong conclusion. As Innersloth puts it in its Code of Conduct: “Never ‘punish’ someone for not following your line of thinking. Among Us and Among Us 3D are all about deception, so getting things wrong is part of the fun!”
Quick Chat supports arguments and defenses during emergency meetings. Innersloth recommends voice chat when playing with friends, but that is not a requirement for public matchmaking. The official game listing states that Among Us supports 4–15 players online or via local WiFi; that is the listed capacity, not a promise about how active or enjoyable any public lobby will be.

How to host and tune a lobby
If you would rather set the pace yourself, hosting lets you choose the map, impostor count, chat settings, and player limit when creating a game. Once in the lobby, the host can adjust settings such as discussion time, kill distance, number of tasks, roles, and role-specific options.
- Create a game: Select the map, impostor count, chat settings, and player limit that suit the session you want.
- Adjust the setup in the lobby: Open the lobby settings and tune discussion time, kill distance, tasks, roles, or role-specific options.
- Choose who can join: Switch the lobby between Public and Private from the lobby screen. A private lobby requires sharing its six-letter code with invited friends.
Handle disruptive behavior and protect your privacy
Deception and mistaken accusations are ordinary parts of play; bullying, sexual suggestions, harassment, cheating, hacking, griefing, and spam are not. Innersloth’s Code of Conduct advises taking a break if frustration builds, avoiding personal details and suspicious links, and using Quick Chat or language filters to customize chat.

- Do not share your real name, location, birthday, phone number, email address, social handles, or passwords.
- Do not follow suspicious links from other players.
- If the lobby is no longer enjoyable, leave or take a break rather than escalating an argument.
How do I report someone in the game?
Open chat, choose Kick, select the player, and choose Report. These are the in-game controls described in the official FAQ. Reporting is the appropriate way to flag misconduct; it does not guarantee a particular outcome.
