Helldivers 2 establishes that Terminids escaped Super Earth’s E-710 farms and spread across the galaxy, but it does not explain exactly how they cross the space between star systems. Later story material adds the Gloom, an interstellar cloud of Terminid spores, without specifying how that cloud travels or how it reaches a particular world.
What Helldivers 2 says about Terminid spread
Super Earth farmed Terminids to produce E-710, which its faster-than-light (FTL) technology uses. In an official story recap, Arrowhead Game Studios says Super Earth acquired that technology from the Illuminate and used it to colonize the galaxy. The same recap says Terminids broke free of their farms and began spreading throughout the galaxy. It does not say the bugs use FTL or have spacecraft of their own. PlayStation.Blog’s story recap

What is known about the Gloom?
Later story material describes the Gloom as an interstellar spore cloud containing mutated Terminid strains. Xbox Wire reports that ships or probes entering it lose contact. Arrowhead’s Into the Unjust update places the Gloom around Hive Worlds and describes the Hive Lung as apparently producing the thickening fog. These details establish the cloud as part of the Terminid threat, but do not explain how it moves between star systems or how spores reach a new planet. What the TCS and Meridia events tell us
The Terminid Control System (TCS) was a containment effort: towers dispensed Termicide to quarantine Terminids and halt their advance. Its purpose was to control an existing spread, not to explain interstellar transport. Xbox Wire’s Helldivers 2 recap

Meridia provides another example of how an outbreak can grow in the story. An official June 2024 community update says a spore outbreak was followed by Terminid infestation spreading to more planets. Meridia became a supercolony and was later destroyed using Dark Fluid. Not in the official sources described here. The established story is that Terminids escaped farms and spread through the galaxy, and that the Gloom is an interstellar spore cloud. The specific mechanism—whether spores drift naturally, organisms hitch rides on ships, Super Earth deliberately seeds them, or Terminids use FTL—has not been confirmed in these sources. Those are possibilities players might discuss, not established explanations of canon.

So the most accurate answer is that Terminids do spread through space in the fiction, but Helldivers 2 has not yet specified their travel speed, route, or means of transport. Super Earth’s FTL technology is tied to E-710; the official recap does not say Terminids use it.
