To get out of first person in Roblox, zoom the camera out: scroll the mouse wheel down on a computer, pinch outward on a phone or tablet, or press the secondary thumbstick on a gamepad. If the view will not change, the experience may have a camera mode or zoom range locked by its creator.
How to zoom out on Roblox
| Device | What to do |
|---|---|
| Computer | Scroll the mouse wheel down until the camera pulls back. You can also press O; Roblox lists I and O for camera zoom in its default controls. |
| Phone or tablet | Pinch outward on the screen to zoom out. |
| Gamepad | Press the secondary thumbstick to zoom the camera in or out. |
In Roblox’s Classic camera mode, moving all the way in can put the camera in first person; zooming back out returns to a farther view when zoom is not restricted.
If you cannot get out of first person
- Open the in-experience Roblox menu and select Settings.
- Check the available camera options. Roblox says players can switch between Classic and Follow only when the experience developer has not locked the camera mode, as described in In-experience Settings and Help.
- If zoom controls and camera options do not change the view, the creator may have forced first person or set the minimum and maximum camera distances so zooming is impossible. Roblox Creator Hub describes LockFirstPerson as locking the camera to first-person mode. A player cannot override that creator-set restriction through ordinary camera controls.
First person, Shift Lock, and camera obstruction
Shift Lock is not the general zoom-out control. Roblox documents Shift as a way to toggle camera modes only when Shift Lock Switch is enabled; the default controls list Shift for mouse lock when that feature is available. To leave a zoomed-in view, use the zoom input for your device instead.
Also, a view that suddenly moves close to your avatar may be caused by camera occlusion: an object between the camera and character can affect how the camera displays the scene. That is different from an experience explicitly locking the camera in first person.
