To get 100% in the original NES Kirby’s Adventure, clear the game and find and press every hidden switch. Use the map to spot stages that still contain missed secrets, revisit them, and follow the switch routes below. The locations here are for the NES game, not its Game Boy Advance remake, Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land.
How do you get 100% in Kirby’s Adventure?
Hidden switches are the key completion objective. They are behind concealed doors and puzzles throughout the game. Pressing them opens map features such as arenas, museums, minigames, and Warp Star travel; the documented completion requirement is finding and pressing the switches, not separately winning every minigame. A 1995 FAQ reports that Vegetable Valley and Ice Cream Island have no hidden rooms. The switch search it documents is concentrated in Butter Building, Grape Garden, Yogurt Yard, Orange Ocean, and Rainbow Resort. It advises counting areas from the stage entrance: ordinary 1-up and power-up rooms do not count as numbered areas. The routes below retain the FAQ’s area labels; labels can differ between guides. The 1995 Kirby’s Adventure FAQ is the source for those route details.
Where are the hidden switches?
Butter Building (Level 3)
- Stage 1-4: Near the end-of-stage screen, enter the door and search the lower-right area for blocks hiding another door. Take the vertical route to the switch.
- Stage 6-5: Fly up the outside section. Four blocks between columns conceal a door. In the next room, break the stone block above and move right to the switch room.
Grape Garden (Level 4)
- Stage 1-4: At the upper-right end of the area, shoot the center block in a cross-shaped arrangement to reveal a difficult-to-see door.
- Stage 3-2: In the airship section, fly to the far right as the screen stops scrolling, then descend to the door.
- Stage 6-3: In the dark room, take the Light ability and backtrack to the start to spot the hidden door. Light helps reveal it, but is not required to enter if you already know where the doorway is.
Yogurt Yard (Level 5)
- Stage 1-1: Enter the low door between clouds, descend through the block floors, and break blocks on the left to expose the hidden route.
- Stage 4-3: Find the small entrance concealed by a waterfall, then take the next door to the switch.
- Stage 5-1: In the first room, use Hi-Jump to clear blocks blocking the cannon, then use Fire to light its fuse and launch into it. The timing can be difficult; re-enter the room to reset the setup if needed.
- Stage 6-3: Carry Hammer through the stage. Enter the palm-tree door over the water and break the green blocks to reveal the switch door.
Orange Ocean (Level 6)
- Stage 1-2: Take the first door, use Hammer to break a stone block, then enter the lower door to reach the switch.
- Stage 2-2: In the columns-and-clouds area, enter a door and use Hammer on a nail to open the route below.
- Stage 3-2: In the boat section, defeat the mid-boss for Hammer, find the concealed entrance below the deck, then use Fire to light the underwater cannon fuse and launch to the switch. The FAQ describes a special way to light the fuse underwater.
- Stage 4-2: Near the water at the end of the area, look for the small opening at bottom left and press Up to enter the hidden door.
- Stage 5-4: At the end-of-stage screen, use Fire to light the cannon fuse and reach the hidden room.
- Stage 6-1: The FAQ directs players to take UFO from the next area, re-enter the previous one, and use a charged shot to break blocks above a concealed doorway.
Rainbow Resort (Level 7)
- Stage 1-2: At the end of a long Star Block tunnel, use Fireball to clear the ceiling over three Waddle Dees and enter the door above.
- Stage 6-8: Near the end, fly above the moon and press Up to enter the hidden door. The switch is below.
How can you tell which stages you missed?
Use the map as a progress guide, then revisit any cleared stage marked as still containing a secret. Nintendo’s instruction booklet says cleared stages display a flag and gives this specific clue: “If the door to a stage is brown after you have completed it, that means you missed some secret items in the stage.” The booklet also explains that the map expands as you clear stages. Kirby Informer describes a red stage door when a switch remains unpressed. Since the manual and guide describe different colors, don’t treat one color as a universal rule. Rely on the map’s indication that a secret remains, and check the stage route for a hidden switch.

The 1995 FAQ reports that completing the game at 100% unlocks Extra Game, a harder version that starts with two lives and three life units. It also describes returning after the credits to resolve missed hidden rooms, rather than finding every switch on the first run. The FAQ reports the completion-rank labels as well: 0% is Start, 1–9% is Water Drop, labels then advance in ten-point increments, and 100% is Hero of Lore. These unlock and rank details are reported by the FAQ rather than quoted from Nintendo’s manual.
