First identify which mob you mean: regular piglins are deterred by wearing at least one piece of golden armor, while zombified piglins—the mobs once called Zombie Pigmen—are not. Gold also will not protect you from a piglin brute. The right response depends on which one is chasing you.
How to stop regular piglins from attacking
Equip any one piece of golden armor before approaching, such as golden boots. Ordinary piglins do not attack on sight while you are wearing gold armor, but it does not make you immune to actions they treat as hostile.
- Do not hit piglins.
- Avoid mining Nether gold ore or other gold-related blocks near them.
- Do not open or break containers around them.
Mojang’s Java Nether Update notes and Bedrock Nether Update 1.16.0 notes describe piglins’ suspicion when players mine gold or open containers. The armor rule and temporary gold-item distraction are documented by the community-maintained Minecraft Wiki.
If a regular piglin is already angry
You can toss or offer a gold item to distract an ordinary piglin while it examines the item and barters. This is only a brief opening: it resumes attacking after the barter. A situational recovery tactic described by the Minecraft Wiki is to equip gold armor while the piglin is occupied; do not rely on the distraction as a permanent reset.

What to do if it is a piglin brute
Piglin brutes are the stronger piglins commonly found in bastions. They remain hostile even when you wear gold armor. Retreat, block their route to you, or prepare to fight defensively rather than trying to pacify them with gold.
How to escape angry zombified piglins
Zombified piglins are the undead mobs formerly called Zombie Pigmen. Mojang renamed them in the Java Nether Update; the release notes also mention their ears. They are not regular piglins, and golden armor does not stop them from retaliating.

- Break line of sight and get out of the group’s view.
- Wait until they are no longer angry before returning; nearby zombified piglins can join the attack, so avoid re-entering their view while the group is hostile.
Mojang’s Java release notes explain that zombified piglins stop being angry after they cannot see an eligible target for a while. The exact wait can vary by version and configuration, so there is no single reliable timer to give for every game.

If piglins are outside the Nether
Piglins moved to the Overworld or the End transform after 15 seconds, according to the community-maintained Minecraft Wiki. In Bedrock Peaceful mode, they despawn instead of transforming. These dimension and difficulty details are version-sensitive; the source does not establish that every current edition behaves identically.
